I bought a big block Camaro Q-jet carburetor 7029215 at a swap meet a few weeks ago and I'm just now getting around to 'checking it out'. As usual, everything I buy for a 30+ year old car has something wrong with it. The threads in the body where the filter/fuel line fitting goes is stripped out. Is this something that can be repaired or does this turn the whole carburetor into junk? Please reply. :mad:

They do make heli-coils to fix this. I have a carb that had this repair done. My opinion is that this is the best fix. However I do not know where to get the coils. A good Q-Jet repair place should be able to do this as it is fairly common.

What exactly is stripped?...the big Hex fitting that holds the little fuel filter? Or the main body of the carb?

If it's the main body of the carb, junk it. It's made of pot metal and shouldn't be repaired,..we're talking about pressurized gasoline here,..dripping on a hot engine. No bueno.

If a you have a carb shop in your area,..drop by and see if you can purchase a good main body that has a "2" in the third digit of the part number stamping,..and a "2" as the fifth digit,..i.e., 702X2XX

The first "2" designates a 60's carb,..the "2" as the fifth digit means it wasn't a California smogger carb. Millions were made,..you should be able to find for $10-15.

With a couple of easy mods, you can make a q-jet perform great!

It is the body of the carb that is stripped. This is an original 69 Camaro L34/L35 4 speed carburetor #7029215. Have you priced or even tried to find one of these lately? Thanks for your reply.

Also, there's no way to tell if the carb you have is from a Camaro,..it could just as easily been from a station-wagon,..or chevelle,..or nova,..or Vette, etc. Which is good news for you,..more availability.

They will have what you're looking for and can usually date match your car.
