wiper blades park in upright position instead of at the bottom like they are supposed to. any thoughts from persons wiser than myself?

Do the wipers function properly when you turn them on?

You might be able to pull the wiper arms off and re position them in the proper location. If you do, I would take the arms off and put a small mark on the the motor shafts where the wiper arms attach. Then run your wipers and see how the shaft rotates, if they rotate properly then just re-attach the wiper arms in the correct popsition.
