Fan runs; I can hear it. There's not much heat, so I know I've got to change the core. But I should still feel air coming out of the vents on the dash (67). I feel a little air under the dash. It's coming from between the heater/defroster box and the vent assembly. I don't think there was a seal there. Do I duct tape it?

Thanks,

Steve

Don't know about the 67, but the 69 has a foam seal between the heater box and the defroster duct work. My original was completely deteriorated when I replaced it.

Do your controls and cables work? Perhaps the trap door in the heater box is stuck. Watch the cable-activated lever on top the heater box while you or a helper works the heater control to see that it's working. The lever should move about 90 degees, open to close.

Also, make sure your duct is aligned with the openings in your dash. There's also seals that seal the duct to the dash board. If original, these are likely goners.

Good luck!

Can you confirm that the blower motor is actually spinning the right way? I once had a rebuilt unit that ran backwards! It moved a small amount of air, but never enough to even melt the snow and frost off the windshield. Must have been a 'Monday Motor" from the rebuild shop! .....Jb

Hey, all. I appreciate all the input. I'll check these over the weekend.

There's no seal of any kind or direct connection between the heater box defrost outlet and the defroster Y-duct; there's a design gap between them on purpose so they don't touch each other, which would transmit heater noise and vibration to the upper dash, which then acts like a drumhead and amplifies the noise. Standard GM design practice on all car lines.

The oblong shaped foam gaskets in the link is what I'm referring:

Click on "heater seals" in the index to the right of the page,..then scroll down and look at part numbers WS-14 and WS-15,..the gaskets are a thick foam. The two to the right go between the defroster ducts and the underside of the dash board.
