Looking for some tips on things to check out or ensure are in place before one drops off a car to have body work or paint work on... Just for arguments sake lets say you are having either new 1/4s or paint work done on your numbers matching Z, SS, RS whatever. You have ID'ed a place that others in you local club have used so it appears legit. Before you hand over the car what protections or insurances do you check out. This can be a catch-22 in a way since there are many great body or paint guys sometimes work out of their garage. Just wondering since thats a lot of $$ to leave parked at someone elses place. thanks

Thanks - thats a great read! Im also interested in the insurance aspect of this. What happens if its stolen, paint room fire while there etc. Appreciate any info on what to check out etc. I realize each state is different with different licensing requirements etc. so really just looking for things you make sure are in place b4 you drop the keys off.

I'm not sure but, most licenseable vehicles must have their own insurance on them. Normally homeowner's insurance DOES NOT cover a licenseable vehicle even if it's in an insured building. I know Minnesota is this way. My lawnmower is covered the Camaro is NOT. Most shops have some type of coverage to cover their butt's. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that each vehicle must be insured to be covered.

Yup. Parts on a shelf are covered by homeowners, cars are not. Get a classic car policy with agreed value (search these forums form companies) before you take it. It is cheap and you need it anyway.
