View Full Version : Eye of the Beholder-bodybuilding
Mister G Mar 15th, 04, 01:06 PM Tonight on the travel channel they are airing a program on bodybuilding for those interested. I believe it is at 9 eastern time, you may have to check the local listings. A friend of the family is in it his name is Chris Cook. A nice kid with a focus.
Vintage 68 Mar 15th, 04, 04:24 PM I'll have to check that out.
Believe it or not I met 'Arnold' many years ago at a party in Fresno - He was also 'a nice kid with a focus'...
I wish him all the luck in his competetion, it ain't as easy as most would think.
Mister G Mar 15th, 04, 05:36 PM Well it was a good show, I thought. Serena did good in the coverage and as mentioned it is a strong discipline.
Vintage 68 Mar 16th, 04, 06:17 AM Your friend Chris did okay too - won his weight class graemlins/hurray.gif
Good looking kid. He's got the bulk to pull off his build, should continue to score well and get his card soon.
Wish him luck for me graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Hey wait - maybe we could get him to wear a T.C. shirt in competetion and ...
Mister G Mar 16th, 04, 08:35 AM Next time he is in town I will talk to him about your suggestion. He is headed over to Europe for some photo shots now. On anoter note his friend Greg was on Fear Factor last night and came in second.
boodlefoof Mar 16th, 04, 11:25 AM I got to meet Arnold way back when... It was during a "jumprope for heart" program. He was up on stage smoking a big ol' cigar while a hundred kids jumped rope in the school parking lot... kind of humorous to think back on.
I'm a big fan of Arnold. graemlins/hurray.gif
Mister G Mar 16th, 04, 12:29 PM Never met Arnold but he is one driven individual who I have faith in as our new governor. I also occasionaly smoke his cigars which ain't cheap! Probaly could buy a good daily driver for one case.
Mister G Dec 3rd, 04, 06:55 PM Just got word that Chris finally won his division and all around which got him his pro card. Long struggle but with determination and hard work your dreams will come true. Not much different than the work and commitment we put into our cars or anything else we have a passion for.

camcojb Dec 3rd, 04, 08:17 PM Yeah, many people don't give bodybuilders any credit. Very tough to make it. My father in law is a four time Mr. Universe. I've got to meet a lot of the former champs, but have not met Arnold...... yet.

djunod Dec 4th, 04, 01:25 AM Congrats to your friend! That has been a lot of very hard work to get there!
I'm into the "Beauty on the Beach" section ;)
My wife thinks that is gross... she's into aerobics... I've tried to talk her into weight training... she won't go for it.
choptop Dec 4th, 04, 04:29 AM Contratulations to Chris! I know several professional body builders and winning your weight class is a major accomplishment. The owner of the gym I frequent (Dave Goodin- the Texas Shredder) has several Mr. Pro Natural Universe wins. Bodybuilding is unbelievably hard work and only the most dedicated rise to the top.

Many physicians recommend women take up some form of weight training to help prevent osteoporosis. The load of the wieght forces the body to strengthen the bone. You do not need to lift heavy weights either- light and moderate weights have the same effect. Just food for thought...

Granny's 69 Dec 6th, 04, 04:51 AM Congrats to your friend Mister G,
Bodybuilding is indeed a disciplined way of life. I lift weights and try to workout regularly. I'm not weightlifting to enter competitions but, I am trying to add a few pounds of muscle to my scrawny ole' frame ;) .
One of the hardest things about weight training for me is the discipline required in your diet. It's not that I have trouble eating lean protein, fruits and vegetables, etc. It's the sense that you're "different" from others in that you don't partake in sweets, fast foods, soda pop, etc.
Or you get looked at strangely when you go out to eat with friends and co-workers and you don't indulge in the same things as they do...that's the hardest thing about weight training for me.
I've also heard it said that women look upon male bodybuilders as being vain and self centered. But who knows what actually goes on in the female mind... ;)
Anyways, Congrats to you're friend.

Mister G Dec 6th, 04, 05:22 AM Through my many years I have learned that satisfaction and peace of mind starts from within. If you get satisfaction in your weight training and the discipline that goes with it so be it. Those individuals that see and accept what is within you are the true friends of life. Life is a journey and you will meet many along the way and those that respect you and your discipline are the ones that make that journey so much more enjoyable. Stand by your convictions, they are worth it! Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season........
