VA requires insurance, period. Va requires VA antique plates.

Vehicle can be licensed one of two ways: 1) as an antique, less than 5K miles per year, and to/from garage for maintenance & parades/shows, no annual state inspection; 2) use antique plates as regular plates and annual inspect the vehicle every year.

I have seen some licensed-as-an-antique vehicles at work parking lots, which by state law is a no-no, but, Mr LeRoy doesn't seem to mind as long as its not every day. Alternating one day a week is good.

You should call/visit VA DMV, they do have a 1-866-368-5463 for info.

I've got my '68 licensed as an antique. Can drive anywhere under the "general pleasure driving" as long as it isn't a commuter and isn't outside of a 250 mile radius of the house (if I remember right). I don't recall any yearly mileage limit, but I'd never break 5,000 anyway! No more safety inspection! :D

I've seen a big van (circa 1970) with antique plates on it... I'm sure you'd probably be fine.
