I have asked this question before and got some feedback, but I'm at a fork in the road now.
I have a 67 base car, straight body, minimal bondo, major surface rust, radio cut to h3ll, trans tunnel hacked to h3ll, backseat crossbracing removed. (had a roll cage at some time), mild 350, 10 bolt rear, TH350, original glass etc. I picked this one up cheap, wanting to make a 1\4 mile car. I thought that it was not hacked on beyond resto, but more work than I wanted to do for a base car. Needs everything. It's all original GM sheetmetal, a very solid car, and a good candidate for the transformation. But after seeing what people here have to do to their cars just to get to the point this one is in, I am having trouble hacking another solid resto candidate for someone who would like to have such a headstart. I have since secured all the replacement metal from a shell I bought. (minus the back seat bracing).
I have been looking for a roller 1st Gen. drag car and think I may have found one as a project, already back-halfed, 10 point cage, etc.
I know it's not only less expensive to pick up someones project as opposed to doing all that work to mine, but it would also save this car for the true 1st Gen enthusiast.
Now the ???'s. If I decide to sell this car, what would be a fair estimate of value, given the fact that they are going up lately? I know it's tough without pics., but I'm working on that and will have some soon. The car I'm looking at is listed on Racingjunk.com. I can post the ad #, as soon as I sort through them and get the right one. (I've been looking a lot and this one happens to be in my state).
I figure if I get half what this project costs I'll be O.K. , but I don't want to shortchange myself either. I know I need to figure this out myself, but am always respectful and appreciative of advice given by the members of this board.
Anyone care to share? I really want to race, and the 68 is heading in the direction of ProStreet, but I also want a dedicated 1320 car.
I hope this all makes sense, Thanks.

I think your 67 might be worth somewhere in the $3000 to $5000 range from the description. If it runs well and is drivable maybe another $1000 on top of that. You could always put it up on e-pay with no reserve and see how the bids come in.

I tend to agree with your thought process on buying the race car rather than having to start from scratch on this 67.

Thanks Scott, I thought about the e-pay route but have never dealt with it before. I don't have a clue how to do it. I'll look into it though.

Tom, you could also research e-pay to see what amount similar condition cars have been bid up to. This way you might avoid the hassle of e-pay listing and be able to determine market value for advertising locally. For that matter you could also try Auto Trader online with the same goal.

Scott, I am really e-bay illiterate. I spent a good amount of time there yesterday just going through the cars. Most of the auctions were halfway through, and there were some real basket cases for around $1000. I know mine is in much better shape than those. I guess I'll just pick a number between what you suggested and start there. One ? how do you research the bid history or do you mean just look at the ads like I did? I can't sell it for a fair price if I don't know what I should ask. Of course I'm not looking to screw anyone, but don't want to short-change myself either. I also don't want Dennis to bust me for trying to sell it here in the forum.
I know better than that. Thanks for the help.
Tom
