: Cheap 12SI alternator?

I have just decided that I am not happy with my cars lighting system. (A little early in the season for snowballs, but what the heck) so I ordered a Mad Enterprises "New system" to upgrade my cars's electrical system. (Like I don't have enough to do before I can get my Camaro back on the road.;) I am looking at a 94 amp 12SI to power the system because I am now running HEI and I want to run a big stereo, and besides, I always thought that the interior lights were too dim anyway. By the time I eat the core charge (my alt is original and I dont want to give it up) and sales tax, prices look to be about the same as a new Powermaster alt from Summit. Anyone have good/bad to say about the Powermaster units or a part number for a good but cheap remanufactured 12SI from the local auto store? Mark from Mad suggested a rebuilt one but says to replace the internal voltage regulator with a genuine AC Delco unit. Anyone know what VR the Powermasters come with?

This link has part#s for 12si's in whatever amp and clock position you need. Powermaster alternator are good alternators and have very good output even at slower speeds, but be sure to use one that can be wired as a 3 wire, not all can. I use a 140amp Powermaster wired as a 3 wire. Other options to consider are a CS130 alternator.
