Hi,

I have a problem with the AC and headers. I bought a pair of Hooker headers (2466-1HKR) from summit racing. Before I bought them I asked them to make sure that they fitted my car (Camaro, 1968, Automatic, Power Steering, AC) since I live in Chile and its awkward for me to return merchandaise. Anyway, they said they fitted fine, but when I put them on the engine the evaporator core wont go in, I thought may be the engine is not mounted correctly, I tried everything but no luck :(.

From reading this Forum I gathered that there are no headers for first generation Camaros with AC. Is this right? Is there something I can do?

Thanks for your help

I would normally say Hookers are the way to go ! From the part # you have, you are trying the "Shorty" style headers on a small block. These are listed as "universal" fit, so I am not surprised that they won't fit. I would talk to Hooker directly and ask them. I am running Hooker Long tube headers and they fit fine with A/C. You must make sure you are using the correct motor and frame mounts. I can not verify any shorty headers that will work. I believe if you do a search, you will find that some have had luck with Thorleys.

I have Flow Tech on my 68 with power steering and A/C, clears fine, but I use a different bolt on the #8 cyl so I can remove the headers/tighten them as necessary, kinda a pain. I tried the headman first and they wouldn't clear the A/C.
I just looked in the Summit catalogue, the ones I have are the classic FlowTech p/n BIG-11100FLT, not the Tri-Y

Thanks for your answers. Yes the headers I have are shorty style, because I wanted more clearance.

I have been looking at the 2130-1HKR (http://www.holley.com/products.asp?product=2130-1HKR) and I think they will fit.

Regarding the BIG-11100FLT I looked in summit web site, and in the application section is says they do not fit AC.

I'm going to have to see what the summit guys say first for selling me the wrong headers, even after I asked them to make sure

Thanks again,

Those "super" comps are a full length header ! I have the competition style headers, as they are alot cheaper than the Supers. Yes, mine are coated also.

TJS69,

Do you have a part number or a link for the headers you have?

Thanks,
