I drive my 68' Convertible once a weekend or so (luckily I live in Southern California) and store it in my garage when not in use. What is best for the top when the car is not in use - up or down?

My best opinion is the way you drive it. I would think that folding and unfolding would wear the folds faster going up and down every time you drive it. However folded up and vibrations driving cant be good either, I have seen rub marks on the back window from that. My plan on this subject is (living in Il.) is to be in the up position in the winter but not latched to avoid the unesesary tightning when cold, then when june comes around put a thin blanket between the window folds and leave it down for the summer. I dont use it unless there is less than a 20 % chance of rain.

If you want to avoid wrinkles put the top up just as soon as you park it for the day period. This will also avoid the top from shrinking and not wanting to go up properly when the weather turns and you are 60 miles from home.

I put my top down in the spring and leave it down all summer, with a towel placed between the rear window fold. In the winter, when the car is in storage, I put it up and latch it. Np problems to report.

Mine is up 90% of the time.

Mine is down 95% of the time in the warm months. I get some wicked wrinkles when I do put it up, tho. After a couple days latched down the wrinkles come out by themselves.

Probably better to raise and latch it when it's sitting.... but i just leave it down.

I drive my car as often as I can. Yesterday, for instance. 0 degree C (32 F). Top down - heater on full blast. Isn't Sweden great?! :clonk:
The top is ALWAYS don, unless parked for the night or extreme rainfall.
Keep it down or buy a coupe ;)

OK...so I had the last drive for this season...Topped it up with 2 liters of anti freeze, ran it through the heater and drove it in to the garage for winter storage. Today - minus 2C and a cold front approaching. F-ing yihaa..

I like the swede's attitude! But I just finished putting a new top on my 69. Haartz cloth with glass. Regardless, the top guys say up, it will keep the material stretched and crease free, avoiding any creases will make the material last longer with better apperance. My old top I kept down and it ended up with creases and eventually tears in the sides.
