Hi folks, seems my wiper motor does not seem to want to stop in the parked, bottom of the windshield position. you have to guess when to turn them off to get them at the bottom otherwise, they just stop where ever the switch is turned off. any thoughts on whats causing this?
Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,
I would say it's in the motor. Where you at in SOCAL?

I would agree with parkbrau. Since the motor does stop with the switch, then the switch is OK. There is a set of "park contacts" inside the motor that continuously open and close when the motor is operating. When the wiper switch is turned off, the contacts are closed at that moment allowing the motor to operate until a cam inside opens the contacts, stopping the motor in the park position. Something inside is not allowing those contacts to close or there is a break in the park circuit. Bottom line is that a new motor is needed.

Hey there thats for the reply, I figured it was the motor, however the current motor seems to be a replacement or repro, as for So Cal, I'm in Santa Clarita, how about you.

I recently ran into a similar problem at the shop on a 69 rs we are restoring. The wipers would not park either and it had a rebuilt motor on it. Turns out that the gear inside the housing that contains the park cam was not making contact with the switch contacts. I had to shim the gear into position using some thin washers. This gear has to be pretty much in the exact position. took a couple of trys but I got it. Too far one way and the contacts stay open all the time due to binding ,other way and they never open to park the motor. This motor had screws and not rivets holding it together which they do after most rebuilds.
