haha, you should be asking that on a lawyer forum, not a tech forum!

Dan, I would have to side with the owner being the one that had the shell with the partial VINs. Was the car reported stolen anytime? If so was it recovered and does the police report show the VIN was removed?? With a report in hand like that I would think they would have a nice case to get their VIN plate back and back onto the REAL car.

my .02 cents

Does it REALLY matter? This topic was only brought up on a different web board to take jabs and shots at someone in particular. Maybe this topic should stay on that other website.

It is a good question though, who owns the car? Did the non-VIN car have a bill of sale or title assigned to it? Does the VINd car have a title assigned if so since the title might be in the now owners name, that person might be able to go claim the non-VINd car as well. I still say if it was a stolen VIN plate and was reported the law would side with the name on the police report who first reported it stolen, Again thats if it were stolen

Shtgnr,What is the car they are taking jabs at? The car I speak of is a racecar and still retains the hidden vin number which is the Copo. The cowel tag and vin number were taken off back in the 80's.I have the name of the collector that bought the cowel tag,vin plate and title, but was never supposed to be made into a car.Guy told owner of Copo racecar that he just was into collecting this kind of stuff but was not gonna make the car.Guy didn't want to sell his race car but sold the above items because he was offered a lot of $$$ for the above title, vin number and cowel tag.So isn't it illegal to make a car, especially since the original car still exist with the hidden vin number?

Did the race car owner sign the title over to the guy that bought it?

If he bought the above listed stuff he should go back and pick up his race car.

Sounds like it comes down to who has the title.

Why someone would cutup a COPO and make it into a racecar to me says they lose.
Give it to the guy who wants to restore it not cut it.

Unfortunately, from what I've been reading lately, both the seller and the buyer did something illegal. If the seller were to press for getting the vin etc back, he could find himself getting in trouble for selling it in the first place.
I think it's a crock of sheeite when you hear people whining and moaning about the guys who replaced their dash boards and had to transfer the VINs, but this kind of thing is obviously different.
From a legal standpoint, I think you'll find neither one of them legally owns either of the cars and either of the VINs. If hollier than though type johnny law (who is always reading this board) decides to pursue it, they can all be seized.

68 Baldwin, you will have to ask the hawaiin who his original thread was aimed at. And as for the racecar without it's vin, so far it is only hearsay. Until some proof is shown, then that it should stay what it is now, hearsay or "legend" or whatever. So, perhaps some photographic proof should be shown before making such claims, by both you and Hawaiin.
And Hawaiin, as for opening this can of worms, well, perhaps those who live in glass houses....

Bill Bill Bill, I opened a thread on the Yenko site after it was brought about in another post for a COPO Chevelle for sale. Only fair to do so to get the org thread back on course and back to the COPO that was for sale.

As for opening up a can of worms as you state, we both know of cars that have been rebodied and most would like to be kept hush hush, esp those that flip cars for hugh $$$ since a rebodied car would not sell that high.

Im pretty sure you would agree that a buyer should be told if a COPO type car was a rebody correct? unless your the seller and the $$$ amount would be so much greater that greed takes over.

Hi Bill Z,As far as heresay, well I guess your right, until I post a picture of the hidden vin number. Bill you remember I was a very giving person when I was a moderator from the very beginning on RabbitsToys/DetroitHorsepower,now I gonna be a lot less open of info that I have.I was one of the original 3 people that started that site approximate 2 1/2 years ago and look at what it got me.So as far as me showing a picture of the hidden vin number in a open forum, sorry its not gonna happen!! By the way the car been a racecar for its whole life with just 60 street miles on the odometer....

Jeff;
I may have been born on a turnip truck, but I didn't just fall off of one, the thread that was mentioned on the other site was also started by you, as was the mention in someone totally not connected for sale ad. I seem to remember seeing this very same car listed on the other sites for sale section a few weeks ago, and not one mention of it's questionable status. Nowe that the pwner has entered into a business arraingment with certain parties that your web forum members do not like, his car gets gored. It seems to me that this is the height of hipocracy.
Dan, I know the history and it is in the past as far as I am concerned and do not wish to be put in the middle. And as far as heresay, you really should not be making statements and comments like that without any proof to back them up. That could be what hastened your demise on more than 1 web site. It seems that as long as you never show proof, no one will take you seriously.

Bill Zacek,As a example of my prior reseach of my show and tell,go to the SYC site and find the rebodie post. Then find Marlins post today about the HuckelberryHound Copo Camaro from Wallace Chevrolet Linden NJ.Click on the old link about the HuckelberryHound Copo Camaro from Wallace Chevrolet. When you see the color picture of the HH car,I'm the owner of that picture. Now answer this why does the SYC give me credit, but YOU seem to now have a problem with me,could it be your on Dave B's payroll now? You know how many hours I've spent researching this stuff and NEVER asked for one single penny! I still consider you a friend, your just a little confused! Take care, rethink who your good friends truley are! Dan

While this is all great drama to read, shouldn't this discussion be taken to a private forum? You both sound like mature gentlemen and I'm sure you'll work things out, but I don't believe it's any of the rest of the members here's business. Not only that, but a disagreement that started on another site should stay on that site IMO.

Best Regards,
