Hey guys,

I am trying to correct a brake light problem, in that I have no brake lights when I push the pedal.

In ref to the white plastic spring loaded switch triggered by depressing the brake pedal . . . I pulled the wires and I have 12V on one side and the other is grounded . . .my circuit tester lights when connected across the two wires

When you push the pedal the spring extends out and closes the circuit allowing delivery of 12V to the brake lights . . .right

One wire is orange and the other is white

I looked at a wiring diagram and don't think the white (feed to brake lights) should be grounded

Can anyone confirm this for me?

Hoping this is my problem and I can run a new feed to the rear of the car eliminating the ground and getting my brake lights workign again.

Thanks

John

Do your turn signals work?

The white wire from the brake light switch goes to the turn signal switch and from there to the rear lights. If the turn signals work OK, the circuit to the rear lights is good. If you join the two wires at the brake light switch together, the brake lights should come on. If they don't and the turn signals work, the problem is the turn signal switch or between the brake light switch and the turn signal switch. A wire rubbed through somewhere inside the steering column is not uncommon.

Thanks for the direction

A little more info:

Connected the brake switch wires ( orange and white) - no brake lights
My driver side turn signal works - front and rear
My pass side does not - front amber lights up solid, rear does not light at all

I have the steering wheel pulled and the indicator swich looks OK visually - no broken parts

I have not traced any of the wires down the column to the harness

Any suggestions or next step to try based on this info

Thanks again

John

The right side turn signal failing to flash could be nothing more than a right rear bulb being burnt out-not enough load to flash the flasher.

If you already have the steering wheel pulled, take loose the turn signal switch and pull it up as far as you can without disconnecting the wires and use your circuit tester to test each circuit at the switch. The wires to the rear turn/brake lights will be green and yellow. The wire colors will often change at the connector at the base of the column.

Could it be another un-grounded tail light housing?
