Some of my buddies and I usually gather once a month and play poker. Not the usual 5 card draw type stuff. Does anybody have any different card games they play...something that will work for 4-6 people? I've got quite a few if anybody is interested...but we are always looking for new ones to try.

travis,

im sure you know the usual ones like 7 card no peeking, baseball, hold'em, ticvk tac toe. but there is i guy that i played with that came up with one that he calls shopping. its a pretty good game.

deal out 2 cards down to all players.

now, take the next card on the top of the deck and turn it face up and place in the center of table

take the next car on the top of deck and place it face up also next to the first card.

take the rest of the deck face down and place it next to the second card.

the cards in the middle are the ones that you will be buying.

the 1st card is the least expensive, or free card.
the second card is a bit more expensive than the first.
the face down one is the most expensive.
(i do not know your denominations that you play with but for example, the first face up card will be .05 cents, the next one will be .10 cents, and the last will be .25 cents.)

if you buy a face up card, it stays face up on the table when you put it in front of you. the face down one(the most expensive will remain hidden from the rest of the players(or down) the entire game until finished.

if you buy the cheapest card, you take the second cheapest one and move it over to the cheapest and take a face down one and move it to the second position face up. so, in other words, just fill in the empty spaces when someone buys a card.

everyone has a chance to buy any of the cards. after the last player has drawn, do not fill in the cards if the last player buys one of the two cheapest ones. this is so noone knows what the next card to be turned over is just in case the card might be an advantage to any of the players.

now you place your bets. after bets, if a card is missing from the cheap cards, just fill it in with the down deck but you can not get a card from the down deck and place it directly to the cheapest card. you have to move the second to the first and the down to the second.

this just keeps going until 7 cards for each player.

i hope i explained it ok but its a fun game. its also kinda hard without showing you how to play in person.

Sounds interesting...we'll have to give it a shot next time. I have never heard of tic tac toe though. I've got some you might be interested in. 3 card b!tch, regular and reverse "neighbor" (our name for the game isn't, ummm, g rated :D ), 4 do you want 1 more, spit, and a few more. I'll explain them tomorrow if anyone is interested.

Baseball
7 card stud
3's and 9's are wild
A 4 dealt face up is an extra card face up or down. Players choice.
3 & 9 wild for 3 outs and 9 innings.
4 is extra card for home run.
First two cards are dealt face down so you have 3 cards before the first bet. Last card has an option of face up or down. You never know if you'll get a 4 or not right. Not sure if you play annying up before cards are dealt. If you have had a 4 of course you will have more cards. I forget how the grandfather played the extra card for a 4. right after getting it or after the round of cards are dealt. I'm pretty sure it's after the round of cards. 4 of a kind, straights and flushs are a little easier to get with wild cards and especially potent when the win making cards are face down.

We play a lot of crazy games, one of the craziest is call Mackintosh or Ride the Bus.

*Deal one card down and one card up to each player.

*Place bets based on the dealt cards.

*Deal another card to each player but as you deal and some one matches (pairs up) to their other card that is up, you stop and ask if he wants to match the pot at that point or fold. He must do one or the other You continue to deal after this person makes his decision.

* Now bet the dealt cards. You continue to deal this way while each time someone matches one of their up cards, they make the decision to match the pot or fold. Only that person must match the pot (or fold)

* Continue until you have one down card and 6 up cards, each time regular betting on the dealt cards no matter how many times during the hand the pot is matched.

* Now here's the kicker. . . If your down card matches any of your up cards (only you would know this), they are wild in your hand.

Warning! Don't play this game for extremely high stakes, I once watched a $30 pot climb to over a $1,000. and all the fun and joking seemed to stop at that point. Someone had to loose and it wasn't pretty!

BTW, If anyone in the Maryland area wants to play or needs a player, please let me know. I usually have a game about once a month but would like to play more. Usually the games are from 7 card stud to really crazy stuff with about a $3 to $5 limit. But of course, we give the money back at the end of the night because gambling is illegal here in Maryland :D !

im pretty sure the 4 stands for 4 balls and a walk or extra base. also, i think it depends on how you are playing the extra cards. if you are playing "roll your own" instead of the dealer just tossing out the cards face up, the dealer deals the extra card down and it is up to the player he he wants to show that card or not. if you are dealing them face up, when th e4 shows, it stays face up.

anyway, everyone has their own versions of the game.

We play "hold-em" about once a week. A while back, somebody brought a deck of the Iraqi "wanted" cards to use. The cards themselves aren't very good to play with (hard to read), but we did invent a variation of the game using them. Saddam Hussein is the ace of spades, and had recently been captured hiding in a hole. The rule was that if you had the ace of spades (Saddam) in the hole, and won the hand, ever other player paid you X ammount. If you had Saddam-in-the-hole and played the hand, and lost, you paid every other player the X ammount.

My ultimate all time favorite money-maker is called "Jacks or better to open, Trips to win".
Dealer antes then deals everybody 5 cards. You must have a pair of Jacks or better to open the betting. First person after the dealer either opens with a bet or checks the bet to the next guy. If everyone checks, the next person antes and deals the next round. If someone opens the betting, everone else has to equal his bet or raise the bet to stay in the game. The person who opens can bluff but you can ask to see the opening cards at the end. If he gets caught bluffing, he pays into the pot whatever is in there and is out of the game. If someone opens with a pair of jacks or better but nobody has three of a kind or better, the game continues on with the next person dealing the new hand. This game can generate some big pots and sometimes take a while for one game, so next time you get up, bring two beers :D . Excellent game, just remember you need three of a kind or better to win. Its best played with NO wild cards!
Another one not mentioned is "Follow the lady".
7 card, first two dealt down, then queens and the next card are wild. If the last card dealt is a queen, then only queens are wild. These are games we played on cold Pennsylvania nights. Now I live in Vegas and don't play at all. Go figure.

Yep...we play "jacks-trips" and "chase the lady" too. Also "bing, bang, bong"...another one with a pretty good sized pot.
We had our monthly poker meet friday night...I ended up tripling my money. I sure wish I could do that consistantly :D

Tell me about BING, BANG, BONG. I'm interested to hear. How about LO-HOLE or LO-HOLE, ROLL YOUR OWN. Good 7 card games. Maybe you ought to move to Vegas. :D

Anybody know of the game called Balls? It's a great progression game. You can make alot of money or lose alot of money in this game. It's a variation on jacks or better. You gotta have the Balls to stay in. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

In bing, bang, bong, you start out by making stacks (like 5 stacks of 75 cents, or whatever you want). We always use a minimum of 5 stacks with a minimum of 75 cents. Each player gets 7 cards. Play starts to the left of the dealer and rotates clockwise. The 1st player throws down a card, in hopes that the next guy doesn't throw down the same card (it is usually best to start with any card you have pairs of or better). If the next player throws down the same value card, player 1 throws a stack into the pot. If the next player throws down the same value card as player 2, then player 2 throws in 2 stacks. And if player 4 throws down the same card as the 1st three players, then player 3 throws in 3 stacks. You'll go thru several hands of cards...deal rotates clockwise on every hand (the player that throws down the 1st card is at the most disadvantage). A player only loses a stack/stacks if the next player plays the same card. Last person left with a stack or stacks obviously wins the pot.
