I have 89' Camaro. When I tried to crank the key, it doesn't turn all the way, and security light comes up. So I got new key but still doesn't start. Do you think problem is ignition coil or swith? .....if so how I can remove the ignition? I tried to cut seculity code but I couldn't find it..... If you know something, please let me know. Thank you

Do you mean the ignition switch does not turn to the START position or the Security light comes on when in the START position?

It reads like you either need to get the original key, the one with the black chip built into it, or have the dealer find out through the VATS module the correct key to use and have them cut you a new key.

You might try this, attempt to start, then turn off completely and remove the key. Return after a min of 3 minutes and try to start again. If it starts, you'll need a new key. If it doesn't, you'll have to have the dealer help you get a new VATS-matched key.

If you do a google or yahoo search on VATS BYPASS , you will find instructions on how to disable or bypass the VATS... Also, shops that do remote starter installation can do this for you ...

.....How to take off column???????? I don't see any screw. I could take off the steering wheel. But after that.....????????? To change Ignition cylinder or switch, has to take off column, right? Any idea? Thank you

what is the problem?

When I tried to turn the key, it turns on Audio or light but it doesn't let me cranck one more spet to turn on the engine. and seculity light comes on. Since it doesn't cranck, I belive problem is not Sprakplug or coil. I tried to take off column but I don't know how to take off. .............. I guess I have to take my car to body shop.
