: Question about coil springs...
Liveinaz Nov 16th, 05, 04:28 PM I have searched and read all of the posts here, but couldnt find anything on this specific question. I have a 68 that had a 6 cylinder in it. I am changing out to a 350 motor and I am currently in the middle of a frame off resto...I put the original 6 cly springs back in, then removed them because I didnt clean and paint them (I thought I could take a short cut), I put them back in, and decided that if I am putting in a 350 motor, it may sit too high, so I took them back out again and purchased a set of 350 stock springs and stuck them in, last night in reading posts on here I decided to buy some 2" dropped springs, so I took the stock 350 springs back out and returned them for the 2" dropped springs. To make a long story short, my question is I have seen a lot of pictures of the 69's with the dropped springs on here, but since the 68 had a different wheel well cutout, I should still have the fender above or right at the top of the tire right? Does anyone have any pictures of a 2" dropped spring setup on a 68 Camaro? I am looking at putting 205/65/R15 tires on there, do you think it is going to rub?
By the way, after installing and removing the coil springs like 6 times now, if anyone needs to know how to do it I can explain it in my sleep...
Thanks...

HAHA! Good luck with that question. I tried in vain for 3 weeks to get someone to the table with 2" drop spring measurements and 400bird was the only taker.
What brand drop springs?
Liveinaz Nov 16th, 05, 04:51 PM Hotchkis 2" 1907F is the part number...
JimM Nov 16th, 05, 04:55 PM the problem with springs, especially over the counter springs, is it'a a crapshoot what you're going to get. I bought "stock replacement" springs for mine from D&R, a few years ago when they only listed 4 part #'s (they list 20 now!) My car ended up at my perfect ride ht, but I think it is considerably lower than stock. My fender lip is 25" off the ground, with 24" tall tires.
I think the only way to be sure would be to weigh the completed car on a four corner scale system, then call eaton and tell them what you got, what it wieghs, and where you want it to ride.
CFunK Nov 16th, 05, 06:50 PM Amen Jim.
It IS a crap shoot and you should be prepared to modify the springs front or rear to your taste, wants and needs.
JimM Nov 16th, 05, 07:01 PM the other day, someone looked at my website, shot me a pm said they liked the stance and asked what front springs I used.... went to D&R's website and found so many new choices I could not identify them, couldn't find the reciept, either...lol. Hope I never have to buy another pair, couldn't figure out how to duplicate what I have to save my soul!
CFunK Nov 16th, 05, 07:40 PM Told you it was a crap shoot............
My fronts are the Moog 6308's and shortly I am gonna lop a half coil or a whole coil to get the ride height the way I want it.
Liveinaz Nov 16th, 05, 07:55 PM Yeah, I guess I will have to wait another month or so until I get it all back together to know for sure how it will ride. It kills me not knowing though...I am just gonna have to put it out of my mind. I do however feel more comfortable going a little lower than have it ride like a 4x4...Worst case senario I have to buy new wheels for the front. Thanks for the information...
400bird Nov 17th, 05, 12:48 AM well you wanted a picture, and it sounds like i am the only one around
so the only pictures of the car that i have are from my crappy camera phone
hope it helps
oh and the pass side is about 1/2" taller in the front for yet undiscovered reasons

thedugan Nov 17th, 05, 04:39 AM I have pictures of my front end that I will send out tonight. Mine sits 1" higher on one side for yet undiscovered reasons.
Lowered with Hotchkis 2" kit.
Woody68 Nov 17th, 05, 07:39 AM I have a 68 Camaro with 2" drop front springs that I purchased from DSE. I would post pictures, but I have not figured out how to do it on this site. If you send me your e-mail, I will send you some pictures.
CFunK Nov 17th, 05, 08:58 AM You guys with 67's and 68's with Hotchkis drop springs TAKE SOME MEASUREMENTS and post them here. Measure from the center of the rim to the fender lip, please.
thedugan Nov 17th, 05, 09:03 AM So from the center of the derby right

Thanks David, I have the 3" drop DSE rear springs and I also have a 1" lowering block. I am running 17" x 8" wheels with 4.75" backspacing in the front and rear. Front tires are 245/45/17 and rear tires are 255/45/17. I do have slight rubbing in the front and if I did it over I would go with 235/45/17 in the front.

69Project Nov 18th, 05, 06:10 PM Woody, do you have headers installed and what brand/type? If so, do you scrape them on the ground at all?
Nice looking ride....

Thanks, Yes I do have headers and have had no problems scraping so far. I have been over some speed bumps which I thought I may have had problems with, but the headers did not scrape. I am running the Thorley Tri-Y headers which tuck up real close to the floorboards. The bottom of the collector flange is less than 1" below the sub-frame. Let me know if you need any more info on the headers. I think Chevymike on this board has some pretty good pictures on the headers installed on his 69 Camaro.
