: My new look!
DjD Jun 30th, 02, 12:34 PM The White Wonder got new shoes...
http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/DjD/Anvil5_4.jpg
The hook was set after meeting up with Kevin (SoCalZ) when he suggested putting Cris' wheels on my car for a look see!! His 18"s were a bit much for my taste but did bring out something in the car. I think the 17's did the trick.
http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/DjD/Anvil5_5.jpg
What I ended up with is Budnik Anvil 5's, 17x8's up front with 4.75" back spacing (235/45 Nitto's) and 17x9.5's in the rear with 5.5" back spacing (275/40 Nitto's). The car already has Hotchkis 2" drop springs in the front and the 235/45's just fit. The fender clearence on the passanger side is a little tighter than the driver side and that's after re-positioning the subframe to it's proper alignment and some tire alignment as well.
http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/Anvil5_2.jpg
In aligning the subframe Cris pointed out that the body bushings were shot (actually almost non-existant) and that new ones would pick up the front end enough to resolve a very slight rub that occures going into driveways turning left. There already on order!
http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/Anvil5_1.jpg
A big thank you to Cris for all the help he's given me. With his guidance and assistance the White Wonder has been taken to a higher level, not only in handling but looks as well!! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

click Jun 30th, 02, 01:18 PM Awesome Dennis. Maybe I should move to Calif. to a high paying job like yours to afford wheels like that, they are great looking. My wife even liked 'em and she isnt that thrilled with cars other than riding around in our Camaro cuz she gets the looks. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
Just got a note from my cousin in LA, she and her hubby moved to Canyon Lake,CA into some mansion. He is a lawyer but the cost of living must be horrible out there, especially real estate.
Nice Ride Dennis

John Doyle Jul 1st, 02, 06:36 AM Makes me want to dump the TTII's & get some Budniks! Super look and stance!
John
Thanks for all the complements!! I've posted a lot of pics recently (after the spring swap, with Cris' 18's and these.) I've done so because the effects of each change have been dramatic in both visuals and performance. I hope seeing these pics help those that may be thinking about a change as well as those that wouldn't even think of replacing the rallys! Until this spring I was committed to 15's and 60 series sidewalls on first gens and though I haven't lost appreciation for rallys I have opened my eyes to bigger wheels and shorter sidewalls.
With the right springs, shocks and bushings ride quality hasn't diminsihed, I took Cris's advice and the Koni's are all on the soft setting. Don't let your ego get in the way telling you the firmest settings are the only way to go!! I suspect the urthyne body mounts might pass along a bit more road feel than rubber but mine are so bad now they might actually enhance the ride! My 96 has the bilstine (sp?) Lev II suspension and the ride is very harsh and hitting bumps is enough to rattle fillings right out of your teeth! The '69 may not match it on the track but on the street it'll hold it's own now...
Kevin - was it Batman that use to say "My job is done here"? Or was it "Our job is done here Robin"? http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif
Enjoy and and drive um!!

withnail Jul 1st, 02, 08:29 AM Nice Dennis, very nice indeed. You don't do things by half though do you? Budniks are a bit $$$. They really make a huge difference though.

oger Jul 1st, 02, 11:44 AM click before you move to Cal. think about this I just pointed the lazer temp. gun on the top of my Corvette. It read a steady 152deg. I don't think it gets like that in Minn.

L e F t C o A s T7 Jul 1st, 02, 03:39 PM I have a question. Do you get any header scrape? Do you even have headers I should ask first?
I was thinking of going with 17's and 45 series tires and have the hotchkis 2" springs, but worried that would make the headers scrape. I get a little header scrape now already, only if I go over a speed bump too fast though........

I have Dougs( www.dougsheaders.com (http://www.dougsheaders.com) ) subframe headers (shorties). You can also get Tri-Y's from Thorley's ( www.thorleyheaders.com (http://www.thorleyheaders.com) ) that won't scrape if you want a full header. I believe Doug's makes the Tri-Y's also but can't attest to the clearence.
Andy - let's say they did cut into the vacation fund this year but not as bad as the hardscaping (patios and walkways)for the house. http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif

Z28 Mark @home Jul 2nd, 02, 06:13 PM Dennis- How much for the old front tires? Just tires - not the rims, I’m looking for a similar deal (like Jim got) on the on the last pair that you took off.

stevo camaro Jul 2nd, 02, 06:35 PM Looks very nice Dennis. Chris is right about the body bushings helping with the clearance issue.
When I built mine I temporarily used the old exhaust system. It was 1" too short on the pass side trying to bolt it up to the manifold. LOL http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
Were your ralleys 15x8"?
John Doyle Jul 3rd, 02, 06:39 AM Dennis, It's not that your car wasn't nice before... but you're not going to believe the attention your car will get now. It's not just from kids either, I get compliments from plenty of the 50 + crowd too. And it only takes a half hour to totally change the look of your car. Back to the rallys for shows or on with the billets for cruise nights. It's been said before that wheels make the car, IMO, it's the best money spent on your car (albiet, alot of money) Speaking of money, if you don't mind, what's the ballpark $ of that package?
JD
68ragtop Jul 3rd, 02, 06:47 AM NIGHT AND DAY!!
good work dennis
John - You can find 17" wheels for as little as $200 each up to as much as you want to spend. Billet will cost more than cast and will look better too. Tires will range from about $150 - $300 each. Something along the lines of what I put on my car will set you back $2000 - $3000 out the door.
There was a hidden cost and that was the landscaping, new fridge and patio furniture I had to buy to keep the wife happy.... http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif

dzjim Jul 5th, 02, 03:37 AM Kinda puts the prices we have to pay for these cars into prespective when the price of wheels and tires is almost equal to the original sticker price of the car. Looks really good tho.
bigal698177 Jul 6th, 02, 12:54 PM Wow, I'm not usually a fan of camaro's with huge wheels, but that is the best big wheel combo i have seen lately, really nice!

Dan B Shoes are the same as when you saw the car Dan, just a very old thread. If I had any cash I'd finish shopping for brake parts and get my project started.
Stevo's coming through town today, maybe I can sell him something ;) I heard he stopped at Pozzi's yesterday and helped Dave clean out his garage... :D
