Hey guys I have a question on a 67 camaro big block that I found for sale locally. I'm trying to tell if the trim tag has been replaced on this car. How does the sequence number on the trim tag relate to the VIN? What does the K212 number need to match up too? Everything looks correct on the car as far as I can tell, but I'm no expert.

VIN : 124377L148706

Trim Tag reads

03C K212
67-12637 LOS-13814
742-Z A-A
EXL 2LGSR 3SDL
4N 5BY

VIN lines up with an 03C build... But there are at least two items on that tag as written that do not jive with that build date. Are you sure the tag info is correct as written? If it is, check the car out very carefully if your going to buy it, because the tag is probably a repro.

Mark is right, things don't add up on this tag as posted. I would like a picture of the tag if you can get one.

Hey guys, I called the guy that has the car and asked him to give the tag information again, incase I wrote them down wrong the first time. The tag information was the same. What seemed odd about the tag was the sequence number on the tag. It seems to low for a March built car. Seems like the number should be in the low 20000's. I still haven't been able to figure out if the K214 is correct for a March car. I have looked at a number of cars over the years and I have a hard time determining how they came up with the LOS sequence (ie K214). There must be some rhyme or reason for them but I haven't figured it out yet.

214th body built during the K build day, roughly the 11th working day of the month. Build months and build days do not necessarily always match the calendar month and day though so figuring out the exact day the car was built can be tough sometimes.

For the sake of my education, what doesn't line up with the build date? I've got the following for tag info and I would have thought based on just the info that all options were appropriate.

03C = Built the Third week of March.
67-12637 = Custom Interior Coupe.
LOS = Built in Van Nuys California.
742 = Custom Red Bucket Seats.
Z = (A50) Strato Bucket Seats (without headrests).
A-A = Car Color is Tuxedo Black
K212 = internal plant scheduling code.
Options:
1E = (A01) Tinted All Glass
1X = (A31) Power Windows
1L = (A67) Fold-down rear seat
2L = (M20) 4-speed floor shifter
2G = (D55) Console front compartment
2S = (U73) Antenna Manual right rear
2R = (U80) Speaker rear
3S = (Z23) Interior Decor group
3D = (U29) Courtesy Lamp
3L = (Z22) Rally Sport Package
4N = (L35) SS 396
5B = (V32) Rear Large Bumper Guards
5Y = (A39) Belts All Deluxe

It is not a problem with the options, although this is a very heavily optioned car and that sometimes sends up flags anyway. It is a problem with the body number and internal plant scheduling code not making sense with the vin# and date code. Without a good size data base (which CRG has), no one would ever know there is a problem.

I see, thanks Daniel. I was looking for options that might not have been available at time of build.

Mark, I have been looking through the postings that you have been involved in and noticed that you are very knowledgeable on the build dates and codes. Where did you learn all of this information? Did you know someone that worked for GM or just been dealing with old camaros for a long time? It seems that the big block car I found has a repop tag. If this car was built 03C would it be correct to say that it was built 3/20-3/25?
Also, you mentioned that the ‘K’ meant 11 day of the month. If this is the case then would it be correct to assume that there were no cars in march that had an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ or ‘D’? I read a post that you wrote that stated cars built on the last week of Feb 67 would have been carried over into the first week of March as Feb. cars. If that is the case, how did they work the lettering? Would the cars that were built 3/1,3/2,3/3 and 3/4 be Feb. cars that had A,B,C,D for their letters?

Tony,
There's no easy answer to that. Fisher was not consistent in how they dealt with that sequence code, it varied month to month. And thankfully it doesn't matter much. :)

Daniel and Mark C,

Trim tag

03C Q487
ST 67-12437 LOS 27088 BODY

Are the two things you two are referring to that don't jive is the K212 and LOS 13814?
I'm pretty sure my tag is untouched. Daniel, I think I sent you all the info off my car a year or so ago. If not, let me know.
