Well, I FINALLY got the new speakers in the vert. Even with the old amp, they sound great. I'm wondering how much better they might sound with a new amp, and which amp I should buy?
Front speakers are infinity Kappa # 462.7CFP. These speakers have a 4" driver and a 1" tweeter on a 4x6 plate, and are mounted in the factory location in the kick panels, covered by repro speaker grills. They are 2 ohm speakers, rated at 60 watts rms, 180 watts peak.
Rear speakers are Infinity Kappa 50.7CS. They have a 5 1.4" driver, which I mounted low in the sides of the arm rest panel. due to the vert brace there, they will be about 1/3 covered by the seat bottom when it is installed. I put the separate 1" dome tweeter in the "well cover" panel, firing forward. For you non-vert owners, this is just to the rear of the window crank. These speakers have a separate crossover box, mnounted in the trunk.
Also in the trunk is a 10" Jensen sub in a ported box. The sub is driven by a Jensen amp, bi-amped for 300 watts rms.
The main amp is another Jensen, 150 watts rms x 2 @ 4 ohms. Both of these amps are 5 years old or so. I currently have each front/rear pair connected in series to one channel of the amp (load = 4 ohms) and it sound pretty good.
So I guess my question is should I replace the main amp, and with what?
I'm looking at Alpines MRV-345 (150 watts rms x 4 @ 2 ohms) $449 @ crutchfield or MRV-240 (50 watts rms x 4 @ 2 ohms) $199 @ crutchfield or infinity's Reference 7541a (140 watts rms x 4 @ 2 ohms) $299 @ crutchfield
should I get one of these? or something else? or keep what I have?
