Anybody ever install one of these? What I have is a jumbled mess of wires.....LOL. I bought the car (68 RS) with this system already installed. The guy had installed numerous relays for powering everything from the aftermarket stereo system (800 amps) to powering the CD player and the car alarm system. Now that I have removed the stereo/getto blasting amps/speakers and the alarm I am left with just the basic's. I am not knowledgable in the electrical system at all but I am certainly willing to listen.

I need to know what wires are suppose to run to the starter.ignition and tach. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I do have a wiring diagram, but I am not sure if it's complete. I have ordered one on disc. Please help!!

Hey Jason, are you around tomorrow? I can stop by if you are. Did you get your wiring diagram yet? Don't worry, we'll figure it out this winter. Did a little research regarding the resistor. The promaster coil is designed to work with about 7.5-9.5 volts. Thats why the resistor is there. If you plan to keep the Mallory system you have to use a resistor or the module will burn out. I assume that's also why you still have the wire from the starter to the coil, to give you 12 volts to the coil during starting for easier starting. Let me know if you are around tomorrow.

Busy day yesterday. Anyway, I'm planning on switching to a standard HEI system. I am trying to figure out if I should stay with the one wire alternator system or go back to the original four-wire system. I'm also thinking that I may need to buy a new harness for under the hood if I go back to the four-wire setup. I just got the new wire diagram in the mail today. It's still somewhat confusing to me. I guess I just don't really have a starting point. Let me know what you think John.

I also pulled out the radiator and took off the alternator and power steering pump. I am going to put on a new March performance pulley system with an electric water pump. I have also been mulling around the idea of dropping in a THM200R4 trans. I want the overdrive. Nothing like spending BIG!! ha ha. Talk to ya later.

The three wire does have advantages. I converted to a 130Amp 3 wire and am pleased with it. With 3 wire you would have warning lights and internally regulated alternator, more reliable than the old external regulator. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think you would have the external regulator with a 4 wire setup. The electric water pump is an interesting thought, however, for what you want (a cruiser) I don't think you want or need an electric water pump. I could be wrong but I believe they are mainly used in racing and that's not what you intend to do. You already have a Big Block aluminum radiator for that small block and no cooling problems. Leave well enough alone. I am very happy with my March Serpentine Conversion Pulleys. I'm also happy with my 200-4R trans. If you want the 200-4R go talk to Dwayne at Isle Auto or go see Bob at Bob's Midwest Transmissions in Milaca. He built mine for about $1100. It's not a difficult swap. Just massage the tunnel a tiny bit and build a new cross member using a 400 crossmember or possibly just move your 350 xmember back and drill a couple new holes in the frame rails. Shouldn't have to modify the drive shaft going from TH350 to 200-4R. Check your private messages for local info. Also, go to http://www.madelectrical.com/ and click on "electrical tech" in the menu bar. There is excellent info about alternator conversions pros and cons.

Thanks Jerry. I am going to be replacing the system with an HEI system.
