I went this weekend to look at a 71 SS for a friend of mine who is the market to buy a car. The asking price was $3500 and was said to have a 8 out of 10 interior, the body in primer and ready for paint. When we got to the car the body was in primer but it was not even close to paint, they had masked the car with duct tape over the chrome and everywhere else and it had been on there for at least a year. The interior was more like a 4 with tears in the driver seat and leaves all over the place. I did verify that the engine was original since it had the matching VIN and the CDJ motor code for 270hp SS 350, it had been recently rebuilt and was very clean, missing the original intake and carb(had edelbrock/holley), engine was dated in January and the car 02B. Could not verify the trans or rearend numbers but it is said to be original(rearend was the proper 10 bolt). All the original body parts were there but the car needs at least a trunk pan, two front fenders, door hindges and otherwise needs a complete ground up restoration. After we told the guy that we would pass and left his house, he called back and said he would take $2850. My question is, Since this car is 1 of 8377, LOS built car, and numbers matching do you think it is worth the asking price of $2850? Mulsanne Blue with 786 interior. I know pictures would be needed but we didn't get any since we were passing, just picture a beat car, needing body panels and total restoration.

Im not sure what the value of a 71 SS is worth..a freind of mine has a 70RS with the front split bumber with the same kind of condition..running but needs restoration, he is asking $ 2500.00 firm here in Fresno...i passed because i found a 68 in worse condition for double that price :clonk: anyway he still has it for sale...not in the paper, just parked in front of his house....Chris.... :D

That definitely sounds like a good buy especially being an SS and having the original motor. The 2nd gen cars are coming on strong very quickly so I wouldn't wait too long to make a decision.
