I'm trying to find out what 283 I have sitting here. I've been through the code list on "nastyZ28.com" that this site links to, but it didn't have much info on the engine. Here is what I found out:

F0516DK on the front pad =
F-Flint Assembly
05-May
16-16th Day
DK Full Size, Powerglide with A/C

The block 3789935 is a 1961-1962 283 with a low HP of 170, High HP of 315 Late '61 Car and Corvette.

what I want to know is, what HP level this came with stock, is it the 170 version in a full size car? Does anybody have any more info than that? I might be looking to sell this engine, and want to know exactly what it is-

It's got 462 casting number heads-double hump from a Corvette. It's kind of a mutt of parts. Any help would be appreciated-

Thanks in advance!

Ben,

Basically, you answered your own question. Yes, the "DK" designation is a 283/170 from a full size with a Powerglide and A/C. The 462 Heads can be from any of the following:

1966 Full Size 327/275
1966 Chevelle 327/275
1966 Corvette 327/300
1966 Nova 327/250
1967 Full Size 327/275
1967 Chevelle 327/275
1967 Camaro 327/275
1967 Camaro 350/295
1967 Corvette 327/300
1967 Nova 327/275

All the above with 1.94" intake valves

or...

1966 Chevelle 327/350
1966 Corvette 327/350
1966 Nova 327/350
1967 Chevelle 327/325
1967 Camaro 302/290
1967 Corvette 327/350
1967 Nova 327/350

All the above with 2.02" intake valves.

Check the size of your intake valves to see which application is right.

"DK" is a 2-barrel, 170hp in '59-'62 or 195hp in '63; as Ed indicated, no way to tell the valve sizes without measuring them.

Thanks guy's. I'm debating keeping the heads and selling the short block, or selling the whole thing. If I don't get any play as a full engine, I'll pull the heads off and sell the short block-

Thanks again-
