I was thinking about a new converter this winter but am not sure on which brand yet. Maybe ATI, coan?? I'm sure there are others. Right now i have a 10" Trans Specialties that stalls to 4500 on T-brake. I'm pretty sure its too tight but i don't want to have a 10" with much more stall.

Thinking a 9" so it will be better for a 200 shot as soon as traction permits. I think an 8" would be best on motor.

What do you guys reccomend?

Thanks

I am not sure where you are located. I have been running a TCS billet converter. I know there are some VERY fast cars that run them as well. They are located in AZ and the prices are fair. They have a web site as well www.tcsperformance.com just one of many converters to look into.

What rpm does your motor make peak power and what do you shift at,
without these nobody can even begin to guess.
What the weight of the car? What does it run? what rpm at the stripe?

I run a Coan 10". It foot brakes to 3200 and flashes to 4200-4300. Very similar to yours.

If yours stalls to 4500 on the motor and is "too tight" it ought to be pretty good on the spray. As long as your converter is tough enough to handle it it might be worth giving it a try.

I gather you are looking for company names that others have had good sucess with. Since they are the professionals with the knowledge I am not going to offer a suggestion about size or its contents. I will say I have used several brands and found PTC (http://www.ptcrace.com/index.html) to be the most consistant as far as getting the most out of your combination. We are currently running 4 cars all with PTC (http://www.ptcrace.com/index.html) converters. They are very durable and not over priced in comparision to some of the others in the market. Just so your prepared this is a basic list of what they will want to know when you speak to them. Just my opinion but whoever you decide to go with give them the facts about what you want and what is in the car and let them make the decision about what to put in the car. For instance you think you might want a 9" and the company you went with says they recomend a 10" ... use the 10" If you went with a good company you wont regret doing what they recomend. I had a friend who thought he was smarter than the company and he ended up slowing down and then had to get the converter they recomended to start with. Needles to say I learned a lesson at his cost.

ya i'm more looking at what brands everyone is having good luck with. I totally plan on going with what they say is best, just sometimes i feel like th company that says we will need to know "everything" Don't use much of what i tell them at all!

I filled out the Form on PTC's website to see what they have to say. I Like that they want to even know the Elevation. Cause the best DA i have ever seen here is 6000 Ft and a dyno correction factor of 1.22!

I was also looking at Precision Industries, they seem to have a good rep.

What about Edge converters??

Thanks

Back in the day we (my friends) were all pretty much TCI junkies but we met a fella who we thought ran TCI and always had that wicked fast car. Well we hit it off pretty good and someone mentioned the 15 (guessing it was alot anyway) TCI stickers on his car. He then proceeded to tell us some story about how he picked up some 60ft and et by going to PTC. just so happened we were in need of a converter and tried one. Well needless to say we dont use TCI. Im not bashing TCI we just liked what we picked up going to PTC.

I think some of that feeling you get comes from dealing with some big companies. They seem to loose the attention to customers sometimes. We actually had a friend send his Lenco tranny back to be repaired and they sent it back to him and parts were left out! In the class he races he is not a "big money" guy but he did spend several thousand to have it fixed. He called them and they acted like that wasnt possible. Turns out it was a few bolts that were left out inside the case. Im not sure if he had to pay for the bolts but I know he had to go into it and finish the job himself or they were going to charge him again. So I understand how you can feel like that sometimes.

I use an Alabama Boss Hawg converter. LOL!
I bet I'm probably the most low-rent on the board here.
I've had it in the car for probably about 12 years, though, and have had no trouble with it. I'm not sure if they're even in business anymore.
Anyway, one thing I noticed is almost everyone I know who orders one ends up stalling more than the range given for the converter.
I ordered a 2400-2800 RPM converter, and it flashed to 3200 behind a 327 with absolutely no torque. I put that same converter behind a 427 and it flashes to 4200 now!

Neal Chance http://www.racingconverters.com/. Call and talk to Marty. Fantastic value, my car got quicker and became extremely consistent. I consider my converter one of my secret weapons!

And be completely honest and do use the one they reccommend. It pays off.

Find someone you can trust that knows what they are doing. I went with BTE and I am extreemly happy.

fill out the application sheet.

I have had great results personally as well as from others with BTE too. Yes, you may hear a horror story here or there, but I dare you to find ANY company that does not have at least one unhappy soul, lol. The JW converters are nice as well, and they sell stators to MANY other trans companies for use. Bottom line is like a previous poster said; get your info and goals ready and then ask some questions. If you need any info or help selecting a combination I would be happy to give you my .02.
