Any one have an idea on what type headers i need, the car is 68 RS the engine is 406 with Dart straight plug heads, the cam 280 duration and 525 lift, the compression is 9.6, it has dart intake with 780 holley, no power steering, no air it's manual tranmission, i have looked at lot places and have not found them for my head and plug type.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried Schoenfeld headers? I ran them on my 70 Camaro with Dart straight plug heads 1 3/4". I sold them to my buddy with a 71 Nova (same front subframe as your Camaro) and they fit great, he is also running Dart heads (straight plug). His car is an auto, but I don't see why they wouldn't fit a stick car too. They should clear the Z-bar and linkage. If you need a part number I can look through my paperwork.

i dont know what size head you have but my sportsman heads work with hooker or headmans or even dynomax all the headers even look identical .if they are the 200cc or smaller i would run 15/8th headers if they are the 215s you will need 13/4headers to match the ports

dont want to give wrong advice so let me regroop a little usually the problem is with angle plug heads that you really have to watch but as i only run auto any more you may want to look to be sure they fit around the clutch braket .on my sons nova i put a four speed in it and there were no problems with the headers at all but he had front steering and i believe you have the rear steering on your camaro witch is a little different no expert though and surely not very smart

The Shoenfelds are available in 1 5/8" I am not sure why I only stated 1 3/4" (proabably because that's what I had), Oh no, it's because I saw you had a 406, I would think 1 3/4" would be in order. In either case both are available.

i aint gonna start no arguments but with his combo he will be quicker with the 15/8s headers by at least 2 tenths ive been there and done that but its his car and its his choice.bigger aint always better im gonna edit myself and cover both me and 7d the torke step header would probable be the best got both worlds that way but i havent tryed them myself to see the results

Doesn't the the header size choice depend on RPM

HI i left few things out a bout the engine, not sure if you need to know it, the 406 is balanced , crank.rods.pistions, the heads were CC to make sure each cyc has 9.6, it has a roller lifters and roller rockers, the ports were just cleaned up, the engine will never be at track, i would like as much torque as possible with my set up the rear end is 308 i hope to use is it at least for a while, i have been out muscle cars for thirty years, i'm trying to get it right the first time

thanks
