: Control Arm Replacement?

Need some advise on replacing the upper and lower contol arms on my 68 coupe. Basically should I do it or not? I live in NW Montana and will be driving the car on nice summer days on mountain roads but not in road races. I am installing the Hotchkis TVS kit, SSBC disk brakes and 17" wheels/tires. The car had the front end rebuilt before I bought it so has new (stock) control arm bushings. In my situation, is it worth (in your opinion) replacing the control arms? Or maybe just replacing the bushings with poly bushings? Delrin bushings? Leave as is? I have the front end apart so this is the time to do it.

Heck, in my opinion, if you're going as far as the TVS, SSBC, and bigger wheels/tires, why not go with tubular upper arms and maybe box the bottom arms.
What shocks are you thinking about?

I guess it depends on your budget, but I would definitely switch to poly bushings if you don't go with the Delrin. Maybe even think about poly or solid body bushings as well.

After all that, you'll be able to enter road races without worrying too much about it!

I'm going with the Bilstein shocks Hotchkis recommends with the TVS kit. What do you mean by "box" the bottom arms? Can the average Joe replace the body bushings in his garage? Will the poly or solid body busigs result in a stiff ride?

Thanks for the reply.

The average Joe really should take the arms to a shop with the proper tools (press, etc.) They don't charge much, and will do in an hour a job that would take you 2 days with a hammer, chisel, propane torch, and lots of beer and swear words.
IHO, the stock arms are more than adequate, the tubular uppers look cool but don't really do anything that the guldstrand mod and some proper alignment specs won't do.
