View Full Version : how to lift up the rear end of my 67ss ben's_67ss Nov 24th, 05, 06:20 PM my car sits to low to the ground and the only thing i can find for it is lowering kits and shakles which i don't trust pro1 Nov 24th, 05, 06:48 PM hi ben... proper way would be ew springs or your old ones rearched.......shackles,coils stiffners over shocks are all hokey scblucam Nov 24th, 05, 09:44 PM New springs is the only way to do it right. There are many manufacturers available. Shackles and air shocks are too cheesy kmg69ss Nov 26th, 05, 06:35 PM Hey ... I have abetter question ... How do I REMOVE the aftermarket shackles that some owner had installed before I purchased the car ... I have a 1969 Camaro SS ... I did find and hold in my posession two sets of the original shackles ... So I got the parts ... Just how do I do this? (since I have NOT done this one before), AND DO IT WITHOUT CHOMPING MY ARM OR HAND OFF ... It seems to me as I removed one bolt that there is a "live" load to contend with, and the pressure building up seems obvious ... First the weight of the body and then the natural tension of the rear multi leaf springs ... Can anyone coach me through this? ... Thanks ... Kevin (kmg69ss) kmg69ss Nov 27th, 05, 03:15 PM I got some after market shackles I can sell you/ give you/ or you can borrow them from me ... I measured them ... They are 4" taller than the original ones used on a 1969 Camaro ... That'll help your tire clearance problem ... jasonty Nov 27th, 05, 11:46 PM No no no, go 80's style. Air shocks. Hah, no, I'm joking. Please don't do that. If the rear of your ride is sitting lower than stock, and you have original springs, they may just be worn out. If you look at them, the ends should be bowed up, and the spring should look more like a "U" than a flat piece of metal. If they're flat, replace 'em! There's some very nice fiberglass units available from Vette Brakes & Products. |
