I sell on e-pay and have not sold anything large/bulky due to the shipping hassle. I think I'm going to get some pallets from work and modify them. Maybe slap a thin piece of plywood over the pallet, screw the seats down to the plywood, then enclose it with thin plywood? Buyers pay shipping, so as long as it's realistic, they will pay for it ;) We have a creative bunch here @ TC. Can't wait to see some replies :D Dano :beers: wes Nov 25th, 05, 05:07 PM Hi Dano. I was thinking maybe taking the backs offs and putting them in a box?? I'm not going to sell the seats until I find a way to ship them as cheap as possible. There may not be a cheap way to ship seats. clwilcox33 Nov 25th, 05, 06:50 PM I'm sure it's been done many times around here, if your thread can just stay alive long enough for the right people to see it and respond :) I have an interest in the answer as well. angelglo Nov 25th, 05, 06:59 PM i shipped some leaterh seats from an escalade i just boxed them up really good and bought some seran wrap from costco and went around the whole thing very good. i took them down to an air freighter and they got them to its destination in a matter of days. i think it was about $150 for a front seat of full power seats. angel HwyStarJoe Nov 25th, 05, 07:30 PM I haven't shipped bucket seats, but depending on the seat I'd take them apart to box up. All that really does is make a smaller box.... doesn't change the weight obviously. F-body seats of the 60's/70's are easy to take apart. The rear seat I shipped was a pain to box, but once done I just took it to FedEx. They're a LOT less expensive than UPS when shipping large and/or heavy items. I covered each half, flipped one upside down and put a piece of cardboard on the frame. Put the other on top and created a top and a bottom box out of several huge boxes. camaroman7d Nov 26th, 05, 11:37 AM I have not personally shipped seats, yet. What I have seen done is as suggested above, taking the backs off and then boxing them up. I have a set of seats I am thinking about listing on E-bay, but the whole shipping thing has kept me from doing it. Might be worth it to try to sell locally. Bob Brissie Nov 26th, 05, 12:36 PM I've shipped them. With a large enough box, you can get the entire seat inside. You need to disassemble the tops, in other words, take the top off at the pegs. Both sections will then fit within the box. Two seats, two boxes. I'd also recommend sending parcel post insured. It will take longer, but the rate is much less. The seats are very expensive to ship via UPS ground, about $100! HwyStarJoe Nov 26th, 05, 02:56 PM If you're wondering.... "Where the heck do I get a box THAT big?".... Just go behind any plaza or mall. There's bound to be several cardboard recycling dumpsters back there, chock full of broken down boxes. If you're lucky enough to find one behind a place like Circuit City, Best Buy, Media Play, they have the BEST boxes. Those places sell electronics and most of the boxes the merchandise is shipped in are extra heavy duty, thick walled. Buy a roll of packing tape and you've got tough boxes for shipping. Stop by any furniture store and ask them if you can have a couple large boxes. They'll have several sizes that tables and chairs come in. Perfect for shipping a car seat. wes Nov 26th, 05, 06:52 PM Thanks for all the replys!! I have a few sets of seat that I am going to sell in the future but I want to figure out the shipping before I offer them up. I shipped a set of 72' chevy truck bucket seats to Calif. a few years ago and it was a big pain. They don't come apart like Camaro seats do. Anyway, One seat per box and it was about $80 for both. Greyhound was the cheapest. UPS was about $69 for each box. The Camaro seat feel twice as heavy as the truck seats. I may have to sell them local or just "sit" :clonk: on them. |
