Did Chevrolet ever weld cowl tags on? I have a 1969 Z/28 Camaro that has the cowl tag welded on instead of riveted. There are welds where the rivet holes are. Has anyone seen anything like that? Thanks.

Are you sure its welded or could it be the sealent in the hole of the rivet?

A picture posted here would get a good response from our resident experts (not me).

I've seen it, but don't know if Chevy ever did it or not.

I doubt GM welded the tag. It is very thin metal. I have not seen any info on welded tags in 4 years on this board. It is probably the sealant you are seeing.

Back then rivets were put on with a (rivet air gun) . Sometimes air wasn,t regulated and when the rivet was applied ,it smeared over like a mushroom. Then they would like a weld. If you look close enough ,you might find pat of the ridge of the rivet. Hope This Helps.

Don't see how it could be welded. Can aluminum be welded to steel?

After looking at it again, I think there are rivets in it with sealer or something smeared over them. I have no way to post a picture of them right now. Thanks everybody.
