Digster Nov 25th, 05, 11:50 PM Hey gang, just wondering if I can get your guys opinion about my car. I don't post on here very much but I read just about every post and have gotten a lot of valuable information. The problem is I am getting paranoid from reading so many posts about fake tags and dishonest sellers. From everything I have read on here it seems like everything with my car appears to be on the up and up but there are people on this site who can pick out the smallest details. I guess what I am looking for is members opinions whether this is the real deal or not. I realize that when you look under the hood there are some obvious things that have been changed but I have not really started working on this car yet as I am having too much fun driving it.
The numbers on the block and tranny appear to be matching, and although the photos don't show it the stamp near the oil filter matches the vin. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I picked this car up for just over 10 grand Canadian so I hope everything is legit as I thought I did pretty well.
VIN is 124379N6322XX.

Bob Brissie Nov 25th, 05, 11:55 PM Appears to be a real tag. Would need to match VIN to cowl date code to be sure it came on this car. The RS washer pump is intact. Rare rally green color code too. Don't keep up with the exchange rate, but 10 grand Canadian sounds like a great deal to me.
Mark C Nov 26th, 05, 06:03 AM Yes, everything looks real, 10K Canadian is about 8500 US. You'll probably have to drive it with a mask on because you stole it for that price.
Rack Man Nov 26th, 05, 06:17 AM Your in Luck....Because your in Canada and they did a fine job of keeping paperwork. I strongly suggest that you order the documentation from GM of Canada - Vintage Vehicle Services (It's less than $50)
Here is the addy.....Dan

Chuck L Nov 26th, 05, 06:41 AM The last 2 pictures that you posted for us to see, Photo number 94, Where is the location?
Where and what angle were you when this picture taken?
Mark C Nov 26th, 05, 07:42 AM Passenger side of the transmission, joint where the tailhousing bolts to the main case. The numbers are on the main case.
sixtsevnssrs Nov 26th, 05, 09:35 AM I think you should try to make a little money off it. I'll take it off your hands for lets say $10K - us green backs. Figure you make a little something off it for your trouble.
All kidding aside, you got a smokin' deal. (but the deal still stands )
bilodeaulynn Nov 26th, 05, 12:36 PM OK, I like great stories as much as the next guy, but are you sure you aren't just teasing us?
$8,500 US for that car? When did you buy it? 1990?
"I have not really started working on this car yet as I am having too much fun driving it." Would be pretty hard to drive it with the engine on a stand, wouldn't it? Look at the pic of the partial VIN by the oil filter.
If you really did get it for that money, I am just as glad for you as the next guy. Do have to wonder about the poor schmuck you got it from though. Sounds suspiciously like the $500 Corvette the widow sold just because she did not want to be reminded of her dearly departed late husband.
Don't mean to be so cynical, but find this pretty hard to believe.

Digster Nov 26th, 05, 10:51 PM Bilodeaulynn- I guess you are right, when I bought the original motor I cleaned it up and painted it, I also put the original wheels back on the car. Other than exhaust that is all I had to do to the car to get it on the road. What I was referring to was that things aren't really cosmetically correct under the hood, note the battery, power steering hose (now fixed), valve cover bolts etc. I bought the car two years ago.
What actually happened was the car itself was repo'd from someone and put up for auction. At the time it had a rusty old 305 in it and no rims or tires, it was up on blocks. I admit that I really didn't know a lot about Camaro's at the time but I thought it was a pretty sweet car and I was going to drop a 350 or something into it. I was lucky enough to be the top bidder and walked away with the car. A few months later I learned that the original owner still had the original numbers matching motor and rims. He also had the original heads (which are damaged somewhat) and original distributor. I had to wait for about a year before he would part with these items which I paid more for than the car. I guess I did round down what I got the car for so if it makes you feel better I actually paid $11000.00 Cdn for the car and the motor. After doing research on the net and mostly on this site I found out how lucky I got. Like I was saying in my initial post I was starting to read so many posts about fake tags and stuff like that.
Great site,
Appreciate the comments.
Kurt S Nov 27th, 05, 12:45 AM What's the axle code and the distributor date?
Quite the deal!!
Digster Nov 27th, 05, 06:31 AM I'll have to check on the axle code, at some point someone has put some undercoating on the axle and the numbers are hard to read, I don't really even know if I am looking at the right numbers or not. I will also have to dig the distributor out of the box and have a look at it. Will hopefully post the info in a while. By the way Kurt what is the preferred way to supply info to CRG for the database?
Kurt S Nov 27th, 05, 10:29 AM Here's the axle code location: http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#RearAxleNumbers
Posting here works fine to get data to me.
If you have data on another car, there's also another way to send it; drop me an email if so.
Thanks!
bilodeaulynn Nov 27th, 05, 10:45 AM Congrats on a great deal. Getting few and far between.

Digster Nov 27th, 05, 01:33 PM I have to admit that it was more luck than anything. I didn't know what I had until after I got it. Apparently nobody else around here did either. I heard after that one guy that put a bid on it was going to tub it out and turn it into a drag car or something. Kurt I will try to get the axle code. Thanks for the link.
