View Full Version : Great Car Chases
sdtsdt Nov 27th, 05, 04:11 PM Guys, just a little trivia question, but hey, help me out. I noticed that Bullitt was showing on Speed Channel this evening and, of course, the car chase scene comes to minds. So, I was trying to think of any great car chase scenes involving either Camaros or Chevelles... I remember the Chevelle in Carrie, but that wasn't a chase, and we know how that turned out. Then, there's American Graffiti and ( those old enough to remember ) Hot Rods To Hell ( 55 Chevy and early vette ) ... So, guys/gals chime in ...
What are some of the great cinema moments involving our favorite rides???
PS ...Note to young dudes ... Pimp My Ride is not a cinema event
sleepsinshed Nov 27th, 05, 04:36 PM I can't think of any good chases with Camaro's, and that's probably a good thing, as chases never seem to end well for the car. It always pains me to see a classic car get destroyed in a movie, even if it's only a Ford.
One of my favorite movies was the original Vanishing Point. That whole movie was one big chase scene. I was also big into Mopars back then. Once again, that was a chase that didn't end well for the car...

Chuck L Nov 27th, 05, 04:49 PM Here is a movie that I have not seen in a long time, 10 years or better, Dirty Mary Crazy Larry. Great car chases, but they hurt my fellings even back then when they ran a 67 z/28 into a tree if I remember right. I loved that movie.
Old Peter Fonda, What a guy, He was definitly made to be alive in the 70"s
69vert Nov 27th, 05, 04:51 PM Christine and The Car (really bad movie) they seemed to chase everybody.
mr396 Nov 27th, 05, 05:05 PM In Bullit, how many hubcaps did the charger loose? It sure seemed like more then 4.
WildBillyT Nov 27th, 05, 05:45 PM In the second season of the Dukes of Hazzard there was a race between Jesse (Black Mustang) and Boss Hogg (White '68 Camaro) that was cool.
RS3SDL2MG Nov 27th, 05, 05:46 PM another tidbit of trivia if you look at the mustang in the movie bullitt it has no marking's or badges on it at all WHY? steve mcqueen asked permission from ford and dodge to use the car's in the film dodge said sure go ahead
ford said no way ! don'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH THAT MOVIE !
how many million would they pay now if that mustang had ford mustang written all over it !! someone at ford was not playing with a full deck ,
also steve mcqueen stared in the movie THE BLOB in 1957 , they asked him how he wanted to be paid either $3000.00 cash now or 10% of the movies gross ? he took the $3 grand thinking the movie would be a flop it made several MILLION dollar's he would have made hundreds of thousand's of dollar's off of it , guess we all need a crystal ball ,

Meanwhile they made a special edition "Bullitt" Mustang and sell "Bullitt" wheels on their new Mustangs. Sheeze.
ttapp Nov 27th, 05, 06:40 PM Does anyone remember the movie "Aloha Bobby and Rose". Some really nice car chase and drag racing scenes with a 68 Camaro. I believe it was released in 1975.

Chuck L Nov 27th, 05, 06:48 PM Break out your GPS's. (movie trivia) Can anyone tell me where this location is and what happened at it? ( Iwill give 1 hint) The best movie ending of all time happened here, What was it. lol

Brackneyc Nov 27th, 05, 07:48 PM What are some of the great cinema moments involving our favorite rides???
While it may not have been a favorite ride of mine, (the Blessed Mother of Acceleration, or something like that) the chases in the Blues Brothers have yet to be rivaled IMO. For fun times though, and a car I have always loved, it is hard to beat Smokey and the Bandit (first one is the best IMO).
BudW Nov 27th, 05, 08:00 PM London?
pdq67 Nov 27th, 05, 08:12 PM One of the BEST chase scenes EVER if you want to call it that was in "The French Connection" when Gene Hackman chases the El!!
It is a real "white knuckler"!!

TOMSTV Nov 27th, 05, 08:14 PM The movie 2 Fast 2 Furious,at least had a 69 CAMARO in it..

zuma Nov 27th, 05, 09:18 PM I agree PDQ, the french connection scene was great! I remember the 7 ups with Roy Snieder (sp) there was a 10 min chase scene with a light green 70 apollo or omega...(looked like a nova) also a good one... If you want to read about the Bullett chase scene, here is is, interesting reading to be sure...:D Mike

Joekool1234567 Nov 28th, 05, 12:43 AM Before Cannonball Run there was a movie called Cannonball staring David Carridean(?) (the dude from kung fu) and in that movie there was a pair of 70 Trans Ams and ton of other sports cars (a yellow pantera was one). Towards the end one of the drivers of one of the TA's gets shot in the head which leads to the TA flipping and causing a huge crash with a dozen cars.
wes Nov 28th, 05, 04:11 AM I haven't seen the original Vanishing Point movie in a lone time but If I remember right they didn't crash movie car. It was a 67-68 Camaro. You have to look close. Also in Christine, Didn't they distroy a Camaro in the gas station fire?
Everett#2390 Nov 28th, 05, 05:15 AM The original Vanishing Point has a 67 Camaro at the opening crash scene.
Another good chase scene is "The Seven-Ups" with Roy Schneider. The end of the chase is abupt.
Original "Gone In Sixty Seconds"
Every "Terminator" movie has an excellent chase, er, action scene -- Who would have the 'nads to drive a Harley and jump off from a concrete wall 15 feet high?
My favorite is still "Bullit," and the Charger lost 6 hubcaps.
Codi Nov 28th, 05, 10:24 AM Any Keystone cops movie. Am I showing my age?
Brackneyc Nov 28th, 05, 10:27 AM Any Keystone cops movie. Am I showing my age?
Not really, unless you were there at the first showing, and were referring to the Keystone Cops as the "brat pack." :)
ummgawa Nov 28th, 05, 01:10 PM In Bullit, how many hubcaps did the charger loose? It sure seemed like more then 4.
Thank you!! It lost 7 hubcaps.
Hylton Nov 28th, 05, 01:40 PM Loved:
Bullit
Dirty Mary, crazy Larry
Vanishing Point
French Connection
But my favourite chase movie involved a Chevrolet Impala and a Crown Vic - "To live and Die in LA"
I gained a lot of respect for Cop cars after that movie I tell ya!
sdtsdt Nov 28th, 05, 02:41 PM I was trying to figure a way to stick the car washing scene from Cool Hand Luke into this discussion, but that wasn't a car chase neither! To me, what makes Bullitt so great is the great driving. This is not just a scene of car stunts ... this was realistic, well choreographed, well photographed and exciting and enjoyable to watch. Super Cool! Vanishing Point was cool too, but Bullitt had intensity. Can't beat that...
DenRS Nov 28th, 05, 04:21 PM I recently watched two fast two furious just to see the 69 camaro. Don't waste your time with this movie or the first one as they are just about some of the worst movies made. It kills me to see them destroy classic cars. In the first one, they rolled a charger. In this one the destroy a 69 camaro and a challenger, but nothing happens to those crappy imports.
bandits77 Nov 28th, 05, 04:31 PM gum ball rally has a 71 or 72 camaro in itand smokey and the bandit
wes Nov 28th, 05, 04:36 PM How about the movie Eat My Dust staring Ron Howard. Wasn't that a camaro he was driving? The original Gone in 60 Seconds was a great movie for cars but the acting was really bad.
sleepsinshed Nov 28th, 05, 05:19 PM Hey Chuck- doesn't look like anyone has a GPS. Don't leave us in suspense, what was the movie with the great ending? Kevin
ChevyThunder Nov 28th, 05, 05:48 PM Alhoa Bobby and Rose..it just came out on DVD and I bought it.. didn't remembering it being such a depressing movie , but the 68 Camaro has a few good scenes in it...all this talk about Steve McQueen and no one mentions "The Getaway" ? How about the T/A and McQueen in Hooper ? If you just want to hear the sound of a great motor and nothing else Le Mans is good for those with surround sound. The Duke (John Wayne for you youungsters) in Mc Q ....I just bought the movie for the green Trans Am ..some great car scenes in that movie...worth the price.
pdq67 Nov 28th, 05, 06:30 PM The thing I remember best about McQ was him blasting away at the car with that little-bitty submachine gun!!
He, He!!

b-boy Nov 28th, 05, 06:31 PM Hmm, the coolest and baddest guy in a car chase movie just has to be Robert Mitchum in the movie " Thunder Road". You just knew by looking at him that he would punch your lights out if you looked at him wrong. His cars were cool also. The new Dukes of Hazard movie had alot of muscle cars in it at the final race, pretty cool.
PinMd Nov 28th, 05, 07:30 PM Also from the movie Christine, The highschool bully, Buddy Repperton had I belive a '67 Camaro that got burnt up.
idoxlr8 Nov 29th, 05, 03:37 AM Not Truely Car Chases but! "Remember the Titans" The star football player crashes a Gold 67 Camaro and ends up paralyzed.
Then my favorite, "Hollywood Knight's" The use of PHR's Famed PROJECT "X". The Mags project car from 1965 till this day. A Bright Yellow 57 Chevy with a BDS Blown SBC and no hood.:)
JHunter Nov 29th, 05, 06:38 AM While not a car chase, a great Camaro movie is "Better of Dead", some great scenes in it of the Camaro.
