This block didn't sit around long before assembly! Mine was cast I248 and assembled VI005DZ. That's 11 days, this ebay block is only 2 days. What was the average time for a Sept./Oct. 68 302?

My Z block was cast on: C279 (Thursday, March 27, 1969) and assembled on V0328DZ, or Friday, March 28th or 1 day later!
My Chevelle was cast on L138, or Friday, the 13th of December, 1968 and assembled on T1216JA, or Monday, December 16th of 1968, again 1 day apart if you don't include the weekend.

Normally, a day or two after casting before assembly. But blocks could get cast on the 1st shift and assembled on the second shift. It was not a FIFO (first in, first out) system.

Don't know about the norm for Oct of 68 blocks, but I had an Oct of 69 DZ block that was only 2 days diff. Cast on the 3rd and assembled on the 5th. I think because they were not "first in first out" as Kurt says, there could be quite a few possiblities. However a one or two day spread doesn't scare me at all. Nor does a 7 to 10 day spread.
