TO229DZ is probably too early for that vin and build date. Are you sure about the engine number?

Must be a restamped block if it's T0229DZ. No DZ engines made at Tonawanda.

Umm, other detail is there's no leap year in 69. :)
I think I recall this block being on ebay......

Don't know if it was this block, but there was for sure a T stamped DZ block on ebay a few months back.

Did they make any T stamped blocks? Feb 29 not on a leap year. 90 days proir to the build date to the car. I have not seen it yet but this is what the current owner told me.

They did but not for a 69 Z/28 ..all the 69 Z/28s had DZ coded motors . And all those blocks were from the Flint plant , hence V which stands for Flint. If you have a motor with T----DZ something is wrong.

Talked to the lady again tonight. All the info she is giving me is what her ex husband wrote on a paper about 8 years ago. 3970010 casting #. D-15-69 casting date which is right in line for an 05E car. I"ll have go see what the TO229DZ really is, they just sound to far off. Been looking since last summer, been to Carlisle, and calling all the dealers with there "original cars". Looks like its time for a 200 mile ride. Maybe this is the one.

Besides the fact there are no Tonowanda built 302s, you can't have an engine cast on April 15th 1969, but assembled two months earlier on February 29th 1969 (February only had 28 days in 69) and then installed in a late May of 69 car. 3970010 blocks weren't built in February of 69, so the casting date is probably correct, but the assembly code can not be correct as given.

A D-15-69 cast block would be more appropriate for a late April/Early May (04C to 05A) car. Not impossible to be in a late May car but the further into the month you get the less likely. Somethings not right somewhere. Maybe just the numbers you've been given are wrong. If they are right as given then the engine is restamped, so you better check the rest of the car closely.

Sounds like you really need to see the car and engine in person to determine legit dates and stampings.
