So I'm talking to a friend of mine the other day who I haven't seen in years and now has his own body shop. He says that a friend of his cousin has a 67 Camaro he is getting rid of and that he can have it for free. The only thing he knows is that the quarters have been cut up to make room for slicks. The car shows up at his shop a couple days ago and has a firebird front clip but the body is definitely Camaro. I decoded the numbers and it appears to be a SS350. Can someone confirm I have decoded these numbers correctly?

714 - plant code???

There should be a letter first on this code.

What is the vin# and axle code?

This Camaro could also be a L30/M20.

This Camaro could also be a L30/M20.

No it could not. This car is too early for it to be a L30/M20 car with a 4P on the cowl tag.

I'll have to ask him about the 714 code. That's what he gave me but I thought it was missing a letter too.

The VIN is 124377L112053 . Appears to be an early car number 12,053. Does this mean the build date is the 4th week of Oct 1966?

Unfortunately the engine and tranny are long gone. I also had him check the rear and it's a 10 bolt with mono-leaf springs so apparently someone removed the 12 bolt. Could a 67 SS have come with a 10 bolt? Will be getting the numbers on the axle later this week.

Vin looks good. Yes, 10D is the Fourth week, October of 1966. No multi leaf springs in 67. I have not seen any 67 SS cars with a 10 bolt, but that does not mean it could not have happened. In this case I would assume that the axle has been replaced. Get the axle code and we can tell more.

That 714 is an internal code on LA built cars. I have seen some with nothing there on the LA cars, some with just numbers and most with a letter and numbers. Remember, anything is possible, even a 10 bolt. I parted out a 6 cyl. car once that had a 12 bolt in it and it was verified by the POP.

The 12 bolt in 67 low-po cars is documented.
But a 10 bolt in a 67 hi-po is not.... Just what I've seen.

In the photos the rear quarters also show this to be a Firebird. Split tail lights. Is this the Camaro we are talking about? Or am I seeing things?
