I am wondering if anyone has tried or used Rust Bullet on their car. I want to know if you can use bondo over it and does paint stick to it pretty good. I would like to use it as a sealer and then do body work using bondo where needed and then painting. Any info would help. The manufacturer says it will work well but they are also selling the product. Would feel much better to hear from someone who actually tried it.
Thanks, Ray

Ray, do a search on the Body Shop forum and you'll get dozens of threads asking the same questions.
Rust Bullet is a very popular product with the members.

Alright, did the search and read the threads. Any updates on how it is still holding? Any problems of peeling or chipping? I want to use it as a sealer for my whole car and then come back with filler, primer, and paint on the normally painted surfaces...fenders, quarters, body, etc....and just leave the silver powdercoated look under the car and the carpet, interior, trunk, etc...
Any thoughts?? Thanks, Ray

I have two years on mine ( underneath rear of car and drop offs) and it's holding up well.

How does it compare to POR15 ?

Better ? Same ? Any major differences ?

Thanks

The Rust Bullet WEB site has a comparison with POR15 (3rd party). I've used both and find Rust Bullet to be superior.

I been reading and searching for a couple days now. I have sanded my Chevelle down to mostly metal and applied a light rattle can primer to it just to keep it from rusting. It'll come right off.

Instead of going the etching primer route and so forth, I'm wanting to get an airless spray gun and shoot my whole car with Rust Bullet with two coats. Then I will add my filler/glaze, rough the whole car with 180 and shoot again. Then I will go with a buildable primer and smooth everything. After extensive block sanding and so forth, I will shoot with paint and clear.

Has anyone had any bad luck or found problems with rust bullet?? Does my process sound right?? Can anyone recommend a good glazing compound??

Thanks Ray

I tried Rust Bullet and traded several emails with them. They promote it as an "adhesion promoter" and say it's readily topcoated, but in reality there is a very small window when it readily takes a top coat. After that window, it just flakes off unless you sand first. So if you're putting filler over it, make sure it rough it up with 100 grit first or you might be sorry later.
