Yesterday I finaly found a 1969 Z28 RS after more than 3 years of searching.
There are not many Z28'z around here in the Philippines, I know only of a couple at they have not been for sale, that is up to now.

Here are the details:

VIN 124379L505874, hidden vin matches
TRIM TAG: ST 69 12437 LOS 143778
TR 711 57 57
10D X423
Engine: VI012DZ behind alternator
Engine VIN: 19L505874 at oil filter pad
Casting number: 3932386
Transmission P8H12A but not sure, anyway couldn't find vin on transmission.

It has the solenoid on the wiper motor and some vacuum lines, but headlights covers are not working, some parts missing.

Currently it is blue with white stripes and deluxe black houndstooth interior. Wide rear spoiler ? Cowl hood, dont know if its original.
7k tach with 6K redline, gauge package.

unfortuneately trimtag has been removed at some point in the past during painting. Trimtag is currently attached with non-original rivets.

I hope to be able to post pictures soon.

Thanks Hawiaan Camaro

Unfortuneatly even I thought the deal was solid, it didn't come through. I have been looking for a Z for a long time, it makes me even more bitter, now I don't even know if I want to post the pictures. this might have been my only change to own a Z28. This was a real deal.

i have a 69 Yutivo Camaro on hand for 10k us, prices are getting jacked up here.

So spoilers and cowl hood has been added, the hood didn't look right to me too. Anyway i like the spoiler less look on a 69, too late - too bad.

that car is a weekly cousin to mine, about 75 cars difference between them in VIN (505849). Yep, cowl hood and long spoiler were added by later owners, same as mine. But nice find if you could have gotten it

my cowl tag is 132383 and my production code is X 164
so they were probably in sight of each other going down the line :)

Thanks for the pictures! Neat car.

What's with the funky vent in the dash (where the HVAC controls would be)?

looks like the car had factory air, according to the picture (link)showing the passenger side fire wall(where the heater box should be,but looks like there was a AC box).but of course its almost 1:00 in the morning.

No air available in Z28's

That car was definetly a Factory Air Conditioning car! There is still the cowl max air flapper in the cowl. RS solenoid is still there, so my guess it was an RS with A/C originally. Not a Z/28. Do not feel bad you missed it. The car still had potential. Even though VIN and trim tag match date-wise, the fact it has deluxe interior and the trim has been removed, is a red flag.

also noticed 2 knobs to the right of the wiper control, never seen those before. Kevin is right about the a/c cowl part and solenoid.

You guys saved my day.
I was kinda down that I didn't get the car, and I know that the car will go to another place where it will be converted to right hand drive, will this delete the aircondition "evidence".

I quess I was too exicted and didn't notice the factory air equipment. I checked underneath and it also had dual fuel lines, but i thought it was added, Doesn't Z/28's have single fuel line ?
Also the dual exhaust hanger bracket was missing, but there was some damage to the frame with holes so I figured it had fallen off.

I will post picture of the fuel lines.

Thanks

I know the aircon option rules out the Z28, but the RS solenoid, couldn't it have been a RS Z/28 ??
It also has aircon kick panels, doesn't it ??

Best that it could be would be an RS/SS car.... def. not a Z of any kind.

What I meant that based on the RS solenoid it could have been an RS Z, I know the aircon rules the z out. I just misunderstud an earlier reply about the solenoid.

Can anyone based on the pictures see whether it was an original 4 speed car ?

It could have been an RS/SS but it would have the dual exhaust hanger then, I didn't get a picture of the frame but for sure the plate was gone and there was some damage and 2 relatively small holes in the frame where the dual hanger would be located. Now its just a mismatch of parts from different cars, at best it could be made into a Z clone now - I am glad I didn't get it.

I'm thinking the car, 9L505874, was a Z.
It now lives on in another body. Bet those partial VINs on the body don't match.....

I checked the partial vin under the cowl, very hard to read but some numbers in the VIN matched, no photo though, I assumed the rest was correct. or maybe they welded that part of the cowl with the hidden VIN in. Now I would like to chek the other hidden VIN.

I quess Kurt is right that the 9L505874 was a Z based on the engine VIN (which looks ok) and the DZ stamp. So it was rebodied onto an aircon car, why bother so much and then overlook something like that.

The guys were selling it as a Z and I thought it was a Z, I was just too exited about the DZ and VIN stamp on the engine.

Boy did you luck out.

Yeah, and thanks to the info here I would not have handed over the cash to the seller had I gotten the car. I didn't have that kind of cash in the Philippines and the bank transfer took longer than for you guys to spot the car as a fake.
Once again thanks to all.

I thought all 69's had hvac ( no ac on z) controls where that vent is, even right hand drivers.

My thinking is the vent was installed before the car became a Z  at the time the car had aircondition. Due to the very hot conditions in the Philippines the owner added the extra vent to get more airflow. I think the aircon was then controlled from the added knobs on the left of the steering coloum.

Some Camaro owners put new japanese aircon compressors and seperate evaporators inside the car to keep it cool enough in the tropical Philippines.

They have "relistet" the car at 30.000 usd. Seems like the other buyer backed out at 29000 usd - good for him. I have made an offer basing the car as a clone and asked about the original body. Seller claims it to be real - I hope they will get stuck with the car.
Oooh what the h... I will search for a real Z28 instead.
