I'm checking things out on my engine to see whats correct as I dismantle it. So far the intake, water pump, heads, flywheel check out correct. From an earlier post I took a picture of the block pad. John Z. chimed in and said It was an obvious re-stamp. Now that I have it down to the short block I found that the bore is 4.094 which is stock. Hardly no ridge. Deck to piston is .027. NOW IF IT WAS A RE-STAMP I WOULD THINK THAT THE DECK WOULD BE LESS THAN .027 to not see the original stamp. Take a look at the pics and to me it looks like I see the factory broach marks on the surface. If this is true is there a way to tell if this was a replacement block? Oh by the way the casting numbers are 3955272 which is for a 69.
Thanks,
Perry

Pad is an obvious restamp. It has lots of problems.
The fact that it's a 69 block in a 68 car, hmmm how could that happen?

A service block would be stamped CExxxxxx.
Also notice how the broach marks aren't straight.

I don't understand why the original factory stamps are gone while there is still a piston to deck dim. of .027 which I hear the factory aims for about .025 average.

Many were taller than that, and service blocks had blank pads to begin with.
