Isn't selling VIN's and titles on eBay or anywhere for that matter illegal? I can't find anywhere on how to report this to eBay.

Positively illegal, even if you call it a wall plaque with a title.

aslong as the title is not active no its not illegal. its illegal though if he is selling it to use on another car. which is probably the case. hes just using the wall plaque thing as a loop hole

Just keep track of the vin and who the high bidder is and expose him when "the car" turns up later.

Good idea. We should grab the pictures before it's over or pulled from eBay.

The user claims to be from Maryland. Contact the State Highway Patrol. It is illegal to remove the VIN from any vehicle whether it is a currently registered vehicle or not. Makes no difference. That being said, it is not a mortal sin to remove the VIN plate to replace the dash panel and put it back on the same car where it matches the confidential VIN's.

That's probably why he doesn't show the VIN.

We juat had a big debate over this topic on the Pontiac site. Te conclusion was (after any people checking with law enforcement fiends) is that it isnot illegel to sell these, it's not illegel to buy these, but it is illegal to reattach tem to an other vehicle. But it's not illegal (although some feel unethical) to 'rebody' a vehical by changing he entire wirewall area and dash panel with the other vin and data pate intact. Alot of feel this is fraud due to the fact tat the only reason to do this is to increase the value of a regular car. Some feel it's perfectally fine to 'rebody'. that has become the hot debate. Whether r not it's ok to 'rebody' or not.

if that is the case then there is hundred of thousands of cars out there that are illegal. people sometimes start off with no more than a shell of a car or truck. they buy all the other pieces aftermarket or NOS. in this case confidential vin's FYI hidden vin numbers"on the frame and other areas of the car" will not match the original vin number that is the true vin number.

I had one person throw a fuss with me on a car about this. I switched frames and nurmorous other parts on a car. so much that the only vin number that was original to the car was the one on the door post. well the guy came back to me saying it was not what i said it was and all kind of B.S.this went on for a good month. the guy tried to get me to send him money back stating what he bought was a clone. Inwhich it could have been but the vin and title said otherwise and for all my knowledge for that particular car it was a ture impala. in the long run he was dissatisfied with the car for that little reason because there was no proof that the car i was selling was a true 1961 impala bubble top. cry me a river.

i feel its perfectly fine to REBODY a car as long as your not converting a car from a plain jane to a SS. example> you've have a rusted up body from the cowl back and a donor car with a good rear end from the cowl back then spliced the two cars and make one.

even though that seems like a ton of work:clonk:
