Hi Trickie,
You can put the factory style power disc brakes on for a total of about $300-$350. AutoZone, Parts America, Advance Auto Parts, Rock Auto, CSK.... they all sell the parts you need to swap to discs with power booster.
The only modification to the existing parts on the car now is to the drum spindles. The top boss will need to be shortened to align the caliper brackets.
Have you seen David Pozzi's web site yet? Take a look at the Front Brake Page section:

Another upgrade option is to rebuild the drums brakes so they are in good operating condition and get a power booster and disc master and install them with the drums (that is what I did! ). Works almost as well as the discs and costs well below what a disc upgrade would cost. You can also use the booster and master cyl later for the disc upgrade. Just another idea.

If you check around. Some junk yards still have the donor cars. Do a search for donor list. I got mine off of a 71 Nova. The main thing you need from the donor is the spindles and all chassis brkline brkts and maybe the combo valve.
Buy new calipers $60.00 for pair. Rotors are around same price. New brk lineing and brklines around $50.00. $120.00 for Power booster. $50.00 for Master cylinder. You will need some other parts but these are the main ones.

You might also do a search here for "PDQBBC" that stands for Big Brakes Cheap by PDQ67.
Other than a few high end choices, most of the "brake kits" sold by many of the aftermarket suppliers are simply collections of factory parts from other GM cars, perhaps with a fabbed bracket or two. Team Camaro members have done this research, and it is here for the finding. A junkyard and parts store can get you everything you need once you know what to ask for.
