thanks for the pics guys..what size tires are yall running with that setup..i am also installing the hotchkis front and rear sway bars over x/mas break...my set up now i am running 245/50-16 in the rear and 225/50/16 in the front...i like the look of the large tire all the way around...my rims are eagle alloy series 212. i think they are nuetral b/s but not sure...any of yall know i ordered them out of summit.....anyway. one day i tried my back tires...245/50/16 on the front to see if the rubbed and looked good....they looked great but rubbed when i turned and hit a dip....do yall think i can go 255/50.16 in the rear. and 235/50/ in the front or what do yall think i can do with no rubbing i am also worried when i do the 2" drop on the front my hooker super comps will rub...they rub now over a large speed bump but i think it is b/c my springs are wore out...any ideas.....on tire sizes im thinking kumho 711 i am on a pretty tight budget and i can get them for 60 apiece

I have the Hotchkis 1.5 multi leafs in the rear end, and 2 inch drop spindles up front. I also went with 245/50-16 all the way around because I liked the look and wanted to be able to rotate my tires and not have to buy new rears every year. It was a mistake. The front end rubs BAD. Although I have seen MANY article with guys running these size tires or even bigger up front. I have come to the conclusion that the shop with did my suspension did not do their homework, otherwise they would not have let the car leave the way it did. Tie rod ends have destroyed both front tires. Headers are "MAYBE" 2 inches from the ground. I plan on saving up the pennies and going with a DSE Stage 2 kit up front. And bringing the front tires down to 225/50-16. I'd post a picture if I could figure out how

WARNING BIG PIC!! 56k WARNING!

http://anti-rice.com/me/camaro/album/pages/DSC01192.html

2" drop in the front, stock height in the back. The fronts actually got a little bit lower than this a few weeks later when they "settled".

importkiller69ss
Dec 7th, 05, 03:46 PM
or would 245/45's work all the way around since the 245/50's rub a little on the front will 245/45's? i want big tires all the way aorund and would like to rotate.....u just think the 225/50 dont fill up the fenderwhells to good even if i am going to drop it

importkiller,

Got a name? I copied DjD's suspension, wheel/tire size setup and I run Hooker Comps and I had clearence problems. I think I posted about this in one of your earlier threads. I'm pretty sure Dennis runs shorty headers so I doubt he has any issues. You will have to deal with your headers if you follow the same path.

yeah sorry my name is bryan hall.. dang its a hard descision to try and figrue out which tires im goin to run with this setup and have no rubbing..still dont know if 245/45-16's will fit all the way around prolly not or will 235/50's fit on the front. and i guess ill have to deal with the hearders rubbing i just hope it is at higher speeds where i can aviod it rather than a speed bump

Bryan - your headers will be a problem but both Dougs and Thorleys make a good set of tri-y's that are full length and don't hang below the subframe. Robert is right that I have Doug's shorties...

As for tires on 16" wheels, for a overall fit about like mine try to find some that are about 26" tall in the rear and 25" - 26" up front. 255x50-16" are 26" tall, 245/50-16 are 25.7", 235/50-16's are 25.3" like my 235/45-17's. The issue is the 235/50's don't come in a lot of brands.

Dropping to 45 series on 16" wheels kills almost an inch of tire height and that lowers your car 1/2" more than mine...

what about a 225/55 16 would that help out in the clearance problem and fill the wells at the same time and still go with the 255/50's out back

importkiller69ss
Dec 8th, 05, 07:39 AM
anybody think that a 225/55 on the front would fill the well better than a 225/50 and maybe put a little more clearance for my headers. and maybe a 255/50 on the rear........

Check out www.tirerack.com look for the "Tires by Size" link under Popular Links. There you can put in a tire size and then select a tire's "spec's" to find out height, width etc.

The 225/50 is 25" tall and the 225/55 is 25.9" tall. What you have to watch out for is matching sidewall height. A 25" tall tire on 16" wheels has (25-16=9, half of 9 is 4.5) 4.5" sidewalls. A 26" tall tire on 16's has 5" sidewalls.

I have .3" difference (front shorter) with my combo. A 1/2" (.5") might be fine but any more and it will stand out... There is one way a big imbalance works and thats with fat tall tires in the rear and narrow skinny tires in the front with the back end in the air a bit, drag race style. I've never seen a big sidewall on the front and short on the back look good... Choose your combo carefully and I know it's costly to change headers but it will make your decisions easier and you won't have to comprimise on your stance and tire choice.

One other thing you can do is use a spacer in the spring pocket up front to limit the drop a little...

yeah thats what it looks like the route ill have to go (header change ) if they rub too bad......but what would be the largest tires i could run all the way around on this setup and not rub i know the 255/50 will work in the rear......i guess a 235/50 will work on the front i mean if a225/50 works great and a 245/50 rubs a little then a 235/50 must be almost perfect.........what is the height difference b/w 225/50 and 235/50 if any?

ive heard some poeple say that they have dropped the front with long tube headers and had no problems and some say that they have..i guess it is just a chance that it will or wont..i guess well have to see if i do have to make a sway i wont have the money for the thorleys...have anybody run the flowtech ones in summiy article says same torque as tri-y's horsepower of big tubes.i mean dang they are only 149.00

Look at where teh headers hang in relationship to the the subframe. the subframe should be the lowest point of the car. As for tire sizes check out the tire rack link..

the summitumo htrz in a 225/55 16 is 25.7 inches tall rather than the 225/50 being only 25" tall and on the rear put the 255/50 whivh os 26.2" tall.....do any of yall think that would look bad........i think it would work...that would mean my back tire would be 10.2" wide and my front 9" wide

I'll be looking forward to seeing the answer to this one too. Since my car is Moth Balled until I can afford to rework the front end and get new tires.
