Has anyone rebuilt their steering gear box? If yes, how involved is it?

Rick's has the parts,..see pg 62 of their 06 catalog. I've never done it,..I'm told a press is needed.

Advance Auto has rebuilt units,..rebuilt by Lares who's credible...$180 with core.

I've done it on my 69z28 manual steering. It is much easier to adjust the box out of the car with and inch pound torque wrench, and alot more accurate. Yes I found out the hard way. You do need a press. If I had it to do all over agaon I'd just buy a new one. Discount steering sells them brand new for about 210 plus a core deposit. You need to double check the price since this is from memory.

Hey thanks, Its power steering. Anyway, I already bought the kit from NAPA awhile ago and was thinking this could be my X-Mas vacation job. There were a few shop's at the Long Beach Speed swap meet, that specialize in steering, that will rebuild it for about 150.00 $. I think i'll go that route.

Again, thanks.

I might suggest that you go to the following websight.

http://www.corvettefaq.com/A-Car.asp

You can download a number of papers that describe the disassembly and repair of the Saginaw recirculating ball power steering gear. There is a series of six pages of line drawings and a blowup picture. Listed under the following:
