What type/brand antifreeze should I run in my BB 396/325 with AC? Seems to be way too many choices now. Everything is close to stock. Also what mixture ratio? I live in VA and rarely does the temp get below 0.

JohnZ Dec 8th, 05, 05:20 PM Zerex GO-5 or equivalent, 50-50 mix (it won't leach lead out of soldered radiator and heater core solder joints like the Dexcool chemistry will); the good old "green stuff" (Prestone, etc.) will also work just fine. Both will raise the coolant boiling point to 265*F with a 15# cap and 50-50 mix. :beers: tim68rsss Dec 9th, 05, 06:05 AM Thanks Jonhz! That is basically what some of other post say. I'm hoping to crank the big iron this weekend. BERRY251 Dec 9th, 05, 01:18 PM what about aluminum radiators will the dex cool hurt those in anyway, I thought the dex cool was made for aluminum radiators? JohnZ Dec 9th, 05, 05:43 PM Dexcool is fine for aluminum radiators - most all modern cars have both aluminum radiators AND aluminum heater cores, and that's what the Dexcool chemistry was developed for; it's not so good for our older cars with soldered copper/brass radiators and heater cores, as it leaches lead out of the solder joints over time, which weakens those joints. :beers: DOUG G Dec 10th, 05, 06:08 AM You can also buy the pre-diluted stuff also. And do not use tap water need to use distilled water. |
