Hi guys, I hope someone out there has had this problem and knows a fix.
I am the original owner of a base model 69 conv. over the years the shift indicator has gotten harder and harder to read. Column shift T350 with indicator in the dash. I know that there is some kind of fiber optic line from the gauge lights that redirects the light to the pointer but is there anyway of cleaning this up? Any place to get new or repop indicators?
Thanks in advance

Have you tried replacing the dash bulb first?

Well duh, the most logical and simple first right? So no one else asks both bulbs and both of the green film light defelctors and the piece between the gauge pods that has the clock in it.

Well, if you’ve replaced those things, the fiber optic cable could be burned or discolored at the bulb end. Trimming it with a razor blade might be a possibility but replacement parts should be available. The bulb sockets, cables, and indicators aren’t year or model specific. Most GM models used the same or similar parts. My 67 GMC truck with the turbo 400 has the same parts as the Camaro. The fiber optic cables were used for illuminating other things as well, such as: Ashtray, ignition switch, and heater controls. An indicator for my column shift truck is only $13 from LMC truck.

Thanks Geezer I will try that route to see if I can get it to function properly.
Then again maybe it is my eyesight as my wife and daughter keep telling me.

What needs to be removed to get to the indicator pointer, cable, clips, etc.?
