I have an 86 trans am, i know, not a camaro, but still basically the same thing. It has a 700R4(MD8) transmission. I just got the car from a friend and he says he had to rev it very high to get it to move. I got the car and tried to drive it but it would not move in reverse, drive, 2nd, or 1st gear. The fluid level is good and the condition of the fluid is actually good as well. I looked under the car to make sure all the cables were plugged in and they are. I am just looking for any info or ideas as to what this could be. I have already removed the transmission and engine to rebuild them. I have never done an automatic trans so i got a video and im using mitchell on demand but i just want to ideas of where to look for the problem. thanks everyone, john.

p.s., email me if you have any info, iwantmyta@yahoo.com

Welcome to the Club ! Lots of good info and people here.

One thing I'd look for during disassembly of the trans is a clogged filter/screen.

The last item to look for damage is the output drum/shaft is still in one piece. If the car has been abused and it suddenly didn't move any more, I'd suspect this part broken.

The above are assuming the car & trans are stock and the linkage has never been messed with and maladjusted.

the input and output shafts are ok and the drums seem to be ok as well, as far as the filter, i dont know i just pulled it off and tossed it. there was plenty of fluid in it before i took it out. could the inside of the torque converter be broken?
