I have a '69 Camaro with the Muncie M-21 transmission. I would like to add cruise control to it. According to several publications I have read, cruise control was an option in '69. I can salvage all of the pieces from a wrecking yard. What I am curious about is which inner fender the unit mounted on? All cars that I have seen had the speedometer cable on the left side of the transmission. Accordingly, the unit was mounted on the left inner fender. The Muncie has the cable on the right side of the transmission. Would the cruise control unit then mount on the right inner fender? This seems logical, due to the angle at which the speedo cable goes through the firewall.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ray

My memory tells me that cruise was not a factory option but rather a dealer added aftermarket option. Since cruise is not original, why not install a new generation digital system, I see them online at times, maybe try here Dakota Digital (http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=results/Category_ID=107/home_id=59/mode=cat/cat107.htm)

sorry meant to put this thread in Tranny section , another Mod will do it soon.

I believe Click is correct, dealer installed item and if it was factory , speedo servo would be on the left inner fender with two cables, one in and one out.
Today its a neat thing , with all cruising going on and every one from the stone age trying to enjoy their cars before they check out. It can be had.

I have stored my orginal owner Z long enuff and have put it on the road. I added a nice set up and tried to make it look factory in every way .

I found a electronic set up in the JC Whitney catalouge. The control lever attachment is not factory looking so I went to Dakota Digital and ordered the turn lever and cruise switch in one item. Part # HND 3,, about $50. The 4 pin connector plugs right into the JC whitney set up.. It comes with magnetic driveshaft pickup and very simple. The vacumn servo is very factory looking .. The kit sells for about $150 and when included with the factory looking turn lever with cruise functions, it make cruising all together.. The lever bolts right into the turn lever cam. Just run 4 little wires thru column jacket and hook up power.

If you're still confused,, send me a pm and I will try to do better. Works for me but I did stay at Holiday Inn last night.

To all who replied: Thank you! I have decided to go with the aftermarket system. It seems that technogoly simplifies things...
Thanks again,
