ok i am in the process of doin some stuff to my interior. and i want to see if what i want to do can be/ or has been dont. and if so how involved is it. i am looking to get the autometer gauge pod that goes in the console of my 69. in that pod i want these 4 gauges: fuel level but dont know which on to buy...water temp, oil pressure, and volts. my dash as you all know in a 69 has 2 gauges, fuel and speedo. i have a tach mounted on my column but it looks crappy. what i want to do it take the factory dash furl gauge out and teplace it with a tach, maybe autometer. and put the furl gauge 2 1/16 in the pod. is this hard to do as far as wiring goes or can it be done. and has anyone done this....let me know

The wiring shouldn't be hard but the mods to the 69 dash carrier would be. I would assume you want the Autometer 5 in round tach, if you pull your dash carrier out you will see that it is going to take some innovative modification in order to get that round gauge in there, but I believe it has been done here, try a search in this forum, and you might get lucky.

I put the autometer guage cluster in my console with the exact gauges you are wanting to install. I removed my factory fuel gauge from the dash and went back with an factory tach. Had to drill/enlarge a hole in the back of the dash panel for the tach to fit. Wasn't too be a deal to do. I actually thought it would fit right into place of the fuel gauge, but that didn't happen. Just make sure when you buy the autometer gauges that the one for the fuel is for a gm.. 0-90 ohms... Good luck...

The factory repro tachs will obviously fit with some minor modification to your existing carrier. The stock 69 cluster actually has the lines for the tach cutout, but you have to look to see them. You may want to look at the back of the one I posted in the classifieds to see what the factory hole looks like, because that makes it easier to know what you're looking at on the back of yours.
I have seen guys put the aftermarket 3-3/8" speedo and tach into a 69 cluster, and it looked okay but there is some work to be done in the way of a filler plate to fill up the rest of the hole.
Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the stock GM fuel level sender is 0 to 90 ohms, so you just need the 2-1/16" fuel gauge with that range.

Sorry, didn't see that Musclecar already posted the 0-90 ohm info. At least my memory is working, if not my reading ability.

would it be better to get a factory looking tach from like year one or classic ind. or swap to autometer.... autometer would be cheaper look better but then i would have to swap my speedo to match...would my existing fuel wires on my stock gauge work with the 2 1/16 gauge i would buy
