My '67 with TH350 has junk for transmission cooler lines (steel, rubber, brass and lots of clamps). I want to install new lines to a transmission cooler and cap the radiator studs. I like the steel line concept and am thinking about buying blanks and a good bender from Checker and running lines along the subframe, well clear of the headers to a cooler that will install in front of the radiator. Prebent lines would work well if I continue to use the radiator. I want the cooler and experience of fabricating my own lines. I have gleaned lots of info from this forum regarding the radiator to cooler or separate cooler topic. I have also seen the tips on flare nut removal on a TH350. Not too much on the art of bending steel lines.

Looking at parts in Summit, I see lots of steel braid and -6 AN adapter hardware. What is AN and what advantages (other than flash) are there to using this equipment? Any recommendations or thoughts are appreciated.

-AN stands for Army Navy they started as Mil. Spec. fittings for aircraft. They give you a great reusable seal. Yes most guys use them now more for flash, but true racers use them for tight reliable connections. If you go with braided steel spend a little extra and get better quality hose. ( Earl's, Aeroquip ) It's easer to work with, "less fraying" and is money well spent. If you don't want the hassle of braided hose look at socketless hose from Aeroquip. It give you the performance without the hassle. Unless you just want "The Look".
