My steering wheel center seems to be some type of cast aluminum. It is painted the color of the interior (standard interior) and has a small "SS" emblem where the three arms come together. There are two horn buttons. This piece is fairly heavy. Was looking in Rick's catalog for a replacement steering wheel because mine has several cracks but wasn't sure which type I have. Any ideas? I would like to use my center.

You can fix the cracks with epoxy (PC7 or equiv).

I do not believe the steering wheel you have described is being reproduced. I think I would do like go2fast said and try to repair it.

I started a simi-restoration on the steering wheel without good success. I used that epoxy putty that POR15 sales. It got real hard but left some cracks. The wheel is in very good shape except for the three separate areas. What is PC7 and who sales it?

That's the Deluxe Wheel for 68. RPO N30, part of custom (Z87) and special (Z23) interior packages, and option on others. CRG data shows 9,178 Camaros so equipped, so it's pretty rare. It's not reproduced that I've ever seen. It was used in other Chevy models, I think, but I don't see a repro there either.

PC7 is part of Eastwood's steering wheel resto kit.

Depending on how bad it is and how nice you want it to look, you may decide to cut your losses (time and little chunks of money for something you're not happy with or won't last) and have it professionally restored.
This place does nice work.

Are the cracks in the rim, or in the center shroud? The resto kit and putty will work on rims and spokes, but the center shroud would need something else.

Is this steering wheel worth fixing at $400 to $500?

I have the same steering wheel and it was in rough shape as well.I fixed it with a 2 part epoxi(don't have the part number handy),primer, finishing potty, and painted it with the same paint I used for the dash.It looks very good.you could fix it for under $100.
