I have a 73 camaro with a 350 engine, and a professionally rebuilt 350 tranny. When it is idleing i hear a like metal on metal sound, but if a rev it up just a hair it goes away. It also seems to go away when warmed up. The guy i bought it off of thought maybe it was the torgue coverter. Well he changed the coverter before i bought it, and found out it still does it. Can anyone help me out or have the same problem? I really don't think it's much, but like to hear any suggestions. Thanks!

You don't want to leave the L out of that one!
Is this a light metal noise or heavy? Try checking the area around the inspection cover and flex plate and the flex plate/converter bolts. Sometimes the inspection cover can contact the back of the crank or flex plate.

It's a louder noise, but only does it when started, and idled if not warmed up. Seems to go away when warmed up, or if i barley touch the throttle and rev it up just a very minute bit. Just bugs me. I don't know about cars, and will have to take it to a shop to get it looked at. It's up for the winter, but early spring i'm gonna get it looked at. Thanks Jim for the input, i will write that down and have them check there. Any more input is ALWAYS welcome!

The inspection cover that Jim referred to is the thin sheetmetal piece held on by four bolts to the lower front of the trans, where the trans and engine meet. It's really easy to remove, and nothing leaks out when you do it, so if you can jack a car up and remove four bolts, you can get rid of that noise and give yourself some peace of mind.
The cover is pretty thin, and gets tweaked real easy. It can rub against the spinning flexplate just enough to make that noise when cold, and when it warms up it moves away enough to stop. Revving the engine probably flexes the flexplate enough to make the contact stop too.
Just get under the darn thing and remove the cover, then start it and see if the noise is gone. Own one of these cars, and you have to pick up some of this kind of skill :) . If the noise is gone with the cover off, you ought to be able to figure out where the cover is tweaked and where it is rubbing, and just bend it a little.
