Am I the only one or is anyone else having problems replacing the inside rear view mirror on thier camaro. The new mirror comes with a square insert in the hole thru which I am trying to place a round screw. This part seems like it is a bushing so I hate to just give up and discard it. Any ideas anyone?

It's been a while since I replaced mine...but I recall it WAS a hassle like you are dealing with now. I used PC7 epoxy to get the parts to stay together. If the problem is that the "button" that gets glued to the windshield won't work with the replacement mirror...You might check into getting a different button from your local glass guy. They come in a few different sizes/shapes. once I got mine glued together, the mirror part would want to slump downward (very annoying) You can align the mirror, then glue the joint where the pivot ball is, but then you're fixed in that position. Good luck with it!!

The square insert is what keeps the mirror from dropping when you hit bumps.I think I used a phillips tip to kinda round it a little so the screw would go through. it was a hassle but nothing ever seems easy on these things.

Thanks I will smash it with a hammer then proceed.

I believe the square area you are talking about should have a small round sleeve inside it that accepts the screw. Mine was hard getting started but once in, works and holds the mirror as intended.

The semi-square little sheet metal piece is a bushing that's there to maintain the torque of the pivot screw that goes through it; if you don't use it, you'll be constantly raising the mirror as it gradually "sags".
:beers:

Ahhhhh, that makes sense to keep the screw tight. Now how do you get the screw started thru it? c-clamp? I still like my hammer idea.

The c-clamp suggestion worked perfect to press the screw through.
