My 68 camaro has a shifter boot installed on the console shifter plate. I want to change this and don't want to go with the original shift plate slider instead I want to go with the 69 type install. The rubber boot was mounted to the 4 screw studs on the plate. This car does have a Hurst shifter already mounted in it. I already have the 69 boot and retainer ring but now it looks like the 69shifter tunnel will have to mount to a 69 shift plate. I don't want the cherrywood grain on the 69 plate need the walnut grain how do you change out the grain patterns on the shifter Plate? Thanks Team Camaro

The cut out on the 68 and 69 shift plate seems to be the same. If it is, you can buy the reproduction 68 walnut woodgrain and put it on the 69 plate.

Thanks for the feed back, I thought they were the same also but the 68 has the 4 screw studs on the plate. This will keep the 69 shift tunnel from bolting on. So I have to go with the 69 shift plate. What I can't figure out is how to change out just the pattern of grain on the 69 shift plate. Didn't want to place a walnut grain sticker over the chreeywood shift plate. Has someone done this conversation?

The veneer is just glued on. I would think a good dose of hair dryer or heat gun would take care of that. A lot of the used shifter plates that show up on ebay have the overlay separating from the metal base. A lot of the repop places have glue-on overlays for a reasonable price.

The overlays can be had. Last winter, I peeled the peeling woodgrain off mine, I was going to make up a matte black overlay to replace it, since there's no other woodgrain in my car with the autometer guage pod on. Underneath the woodgrain, I found full polished nice shiny chrome, so I left it that way, looks great!

Thanks I'll try the heat gun.
